I think they call them buster collars? Not sure? But them ones that make them look like lampshades.

Anyway my rottie just got one after being neutered, any ideas how to make it better for him? hes finding it very weird and keeps bumping into stuff and getting scared.

Or will he just get used to it? hes got to keep it on for 10 days!!

He should eventually get used to the E-collar. I don't think he'll need it for an entire 10 days, though. The purpose of the E-collar is to prevent him from biting at his stitches. After a few days (when his stitches have started to heal), you can call and ask the vet about taking it off. If he begins to bite at his stitches, though, you'll need to put it back on him.

As far as bumping into stuff.....remember, he can't see behind him or on the side of him. He can only see in front of him fo now, which is pretty scary. Just make sure he has a lot of room to move around the house (stuff picked up off the floor, etc).

When my dogs have need a buster collar I've taken it off when they're with me and I can see what they're doing, just to give them a break from it. The biggest problem really is making sure he doesn't snag things on the buster and knock them over.

Some just can't get used to it because its so weird! Our bulldog just had one put on and I know your pain with getting hit in the back of the legs.I have bruises lol if you can, make all entrances and favourite places to roam very open by moving furniture so he can't hurt himself. He could also be getting uncomfortable around his neck, check to make sure it isn't moist under there.Bob has ended up with an infection from his cone ramming into his neck and rubbing so if you can maybe put a cloth between the cone and his neck. Hopefully he figures it out soon lol

Aren't they just awful. It's actually very frightening for them, especially when they bump into things. I took my dog's "lampshade" off and just made sure she didn't lick her operation wound. Fortunately she was very good, but not all dogs are the same, so you just have to judge what's best for you.

He'll just have to get used to it. What I've done for my dogs who had to wear one while they had stitches, was take it off when I'm with them. He doesn't need it on if you're in the room with him to keep him from bothering his stitches. That'll make it more bearable for those times he does have to have it on.

He'll get used to it pretty quickly. Try to keep him calm and in a relatively small area. He should be kept quiet for a few days anyway to help him heal.

put a 60watt bulb in his mouth he will feel right at home.ha ha.no seriously though.better him enduring 10 days wearing that than going back to the vets having ripped his stitches.just give him plenty of affection and plenty of treats to keep him occupied

He will get used to it! It does them no harm but he won't like it. Keep it on as otherwise, he will get to his wound! My dog had one and I used to give him a little scratch sometimes around his ears cos he couldn't get there!
