are there any documents that need to b shown, how much dowry is the man meant to offer and how many witnesses does there have to be?

My sister in law is a white European and she married her husband who is from Pakistan in a mosque. I'm not sure about the legal documents but I know the women had to have their shoulders and legs covered.
There were witnesses (3 I think, I didn't go).as in a western ceremony. A few months after they had to be married again at a registry office for it to be recognised in Britain. My sister in law had to change her christian name after she married.

consult the local Qaazi. U'll have to hav 4 witnesses. the qaazi will ask if you want to marry the man ... you say "yes" thrice. the "dowry" that a man gives is purely on your choice.. both of you can decide together.
You and your husband-to-be will have to sign some papers (nikkah nama) and you're married ! :)

Well, I must admit the first answer is interesting to say the least.
I really not know, but, many cultures require a dowry in the range of $5,000-10,000 USD. I think today it in cash, but, their were times this was giving in Livestock and other type of valuable commodities.

marriage is a celebration to celebrate two people getting together there is not such a thing called mosque marriage .mosque is a place to pray, you get your blessing or Islamic marriage from imam . this would happen privately and than you do your marriage ceremony where ever you want .mosque is not church you do not get married in mosque .people get married in mosque because its free.nothing to do with religion
