A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

I am a Jehovah's Witness, and all this violence and disrespect is really unnecesary!

We are instructed to avoid "No trespassing" signs out of respect for the law. "No soliciting" signs don't apply to us because we aren't selling anything- our literature is free of charge to anyone who wants it. However, some Witnesses will not go to a home with a "No soliciting" sign, while others will.

If you do answer the door, you may tell them to make you a "do not call", meaning you never EVER want to see them again.

The reason we come back on a regular basis is not to irritate or annoy- people's circumstances do change though, and if you aren't interested it's possible a member of your family might be. Or maybe you will be one day, depending on events in your life. People do have a tendency to move locations as well, so we never know if we will run into the same householder each time.

And to the poster who claimed (erroneously, I might add) that we have a quota to meet every month and request money is ridiculous. There are no quotas for us at all- our preaching work is voluntary. Some people only do it once a week, some are able to go out every day. It depends on our individual circumstances. We do, as a whole, keep track of the progress of our work, but there aren't requirements to be met in the ministry.

And, as I stated before, we aren't interested in your money! Or even "converting" you! We just want to share the message of God's Kingdom with you. We also aren't interested in shoving it down your throat, as another said, so on the whole we remain respectful of your wishes.

I can't speak for all 6 million plus of us, but I can say that from my experience, most of us are respectful and refrain from being argumentative. We want to give praise and honor to Jehovah, not bring reproach upon His name.

We are simply fulfilling the command Jesus gave to all of his followers to preach the "good news of the kingdom." No hidden agenda or monetary reward involved.

The best way to learn what to do to stop JWs is to contact a synagogue and talk to the Rabbi.

Ask him how the ancient Jews got rid of the Christian Jews when they went from house to house telling their brethren that the beliefs, rituals, and holiday observances that they have followed for hundreds of years was no longer valid?

I’m sure they had ways to get rid of the Jews, who from their point of view, was a cult started by a Uneducated, Jewish Lower Class Carpenter, who was executed for cause by the governing authority. The only education he got was from his low class parents, Mary and Joseph. These followers were also uneducated Jewish lower class individuals, such as Peter, a failed fisherman, and Matthew, a hated tax collector.

Lacking any kind of education, let alone advance religious education, it was clear they were easily brainwashed into believing that the uneducated ex-carpenter was somehow the Messiah, which was clearly false as it was commonly known that when the Messiah came, he would destroy (Armageddon) the enemies of the true people of God, as foretold.

Saul of Tarsus, a highly educated individual in the religious arts, repeatedly proved they were a false religious sect and cult, creating their own scriptures (Bible) instead of relying on the Holy Torah, which had been used by the Jews for hundreds of years. Saul often stood by as the true believers of God stoned these so-called Christians for their door to door activities and spreading of false doctrine.

Now, I would not recommend stoning, but they may have had other methods that worked to stop the house to house work and the spreading of false doctrine . What worked for them against the Christian cult may work against the JWs. At least you will be in good company in doing so.

Well saying you are a Witness will only get you visited more. Simply/Politely/Firmly tell us you do not wish to talk, period, and would like it if we did not call again. About once or twice a year we will want to see if you still live there, or if you have any new questions, but other than that we will leave you be. We do not wish to waste time, your's or our's

tell the you wish to be placed on the 'do not call' list.
answerer #1's solution could land you in jail, as exposing one's self is a criminal act, even if you do it when you open your door.
Answerer #3's solution is also flawed, as Jehovah's Witnesses are not soliciting or selling, they are offering FREE home Bible studies, so, putting up a No Soliciting sign is ineffectual.
Answerer #5's solution will also land you in jail. As it is a freedom to go door to door gauranteed by the laws of the US, brandishing a firearm is a crime against that freedom, and in the post 911 woeld could also be termed an act of terrorism.

Some Weirdo? You have just committed a criminal act, inciting others to perform a criminal act, that is not only anti American, it is against the law.

Just say no thanks and please do not come back.

They will make a note of your address on their little maps and this tells them not to knock on your door.

Several years later they may come back around in case there are new occupants.

If you are being harassed or feel harassed then tell them that you will contact the authorities.

Place a sign on your door stating that no bible information is wanted or some such, that is usually respected by JWs.

Former JW.) When I was among them I learned that, if you don't want them to bother you anymore, make a sign that says: NO JEHOVAHS WITNESSES! Put the sign where they will see it - in entrance door or window. According to them, if they see that type sign, they will turn around and not bother you. If they still knock on your door if you have placed a sign up, then they must have been lying to me. (They don't tell the general public this, because they don't really want that to happen. You see, they say when everyone puts a sign up - No Jehovahs Witnesses, that is the last sign before the end, and thier work would be done.)
Quite simple really.

I am a Jehovah's Witness. If you put a "no trespassing" sine out, we will not come to your door. The no soliciting some will still come to the door. Because the soliciting does not protean to us. We are not trying to sell you anything.
Hope this helps.

Just ask them not to return, and inform them you're not interested...Also, don't accept any tracts/books/magazines from them; AND

Don't offer them money.

They have a quota to meet each month for visitations. That's partially how they stay in good standing with the JW/WT society.
