Fresh clean water in a CLEAN refrigerator goes a long way. ALL food needs to be properly stored. Stinky cheeses and garlicky foods within a stale smelly refrigerator will over come all the Arm & Hammer in the world. Water in a glass will get stale. Before parties be sure you have fresh ice from fresh trays. If you want ice daily use the same tray. I you are the only one. Use the same tray. Age in general will finally evaporate the water and it will taste awfull. This is especially important in a frost free refrigerator. It is designed to extract dampness and water. That is a reason to not put unprotected food in a refrigerator. I once deliberately left a large fresh goose egg on the bottom slelf to see what would happen. After a year I could not smell an oder from it and it was truly dry. I then put it on a cabinate shelf to be sure it is dry. I even continued to have people varify that it had no odor. Ice purchased from stores well eventually go stale but it does take longer because it is flash frozen from the start.

Don't let it sit so long in the freezer. Ice is only as expensive as the water you put in the tray. If you don't use ice that much, replace with fresh water the night before you want to use it.
