I have bipolar disorder so I think I'm qualified to answer this question. Some regression in normal in all people, not just bipolar people. Regression to a 5 or 6 year old child is never normal for anyone. I think that there was something that was missed in her diagnosis. I can give you better information but you really didn't explain what she is doing that makes her act like a 6 year old. Extend your question and then I'll extend my answer or you can email me. Without knowing anything other than what you have said so far, it does seem like autism to me.

No, regression is not normal for a bi-polar.
Brace yourself: sometimes that type of regression is indeed a symptom of the autism spectrum of disorders, including Aspergers Syndrome. Kids with Aspergers can be bipolar, too.
I would take her to see someone else, personally. If she has been like this for 5 years I think they may have missed something. You can find doctors in your area through this website, you can join a support group online and read through stories to see if you find any similarities to your daughters behavior.

Best of luck to you and your daughter. I'm the Aunt of three Asperger's kids. It's going to be okay. Educate yourself and complain, complain, complain until your doctors and insurance get the job done.

She acts 6? In what ways? It's not uncommon for adolescents to 'regress' toward childhood habits and behavour. It has to do with the knowledge that childhood is almost over and a desire to grasp on to what's left because the adult world seems like a frightening place. Depending on the degree of this behavour it is normal whether she is bipolar or not. The best thing you can do for her at this time is encourage, support and guide her into an adult life. Perhaps, a part-time job is in order?

I don't know who diagnosed a child of 11yrs as Bipolar depressive disorder, it can never be to a child & it can only happen in US. The strongest anti depressent he priscribed has not only retarted her growth but reversed it. If you are from US than this is normal because your brain has been washed & in anticipation that you will not ask for an explanation nor you are qualified enough to what is this? & why? I have written what no body would have dared but ask me to come any where & testify honestly & I will do, no matter if I am Hanged.

for sure, the question of what's universal could be taken in context - you're clinically determined with a kind of psychological ailment and are taking many drugs to alleviate the indications, yet all such drugs have complicated consequences and side consequences. possibly, have been you neither bipolar nor clinically depressive, you does no longer be expressing the depressed behaviors you describe - emotionality, lethargy, sleepiness, loss of force. according to risk you meds want some tweaking - even with the undeniable fact which you're taking an anti-depressant, you're nonetheless behaving depressed. additionally, in case you do no longer take the prescribed meds precisely as directed, you will under no circumstances get the deliberate advantages, whether they are working for you as they might desire to be. maximum depressives and bipolars artwork their way around the obtainable drugs, their well-being practitioner prescribing distinctive formulation, distinctive doses, and each now and then distinctive mixtures to discover the main efficient recurring for the guy's indications. A observe of warning: mutually as the "down" cycle of bipolar persons externally resembles medical melancholy, it would not have the comparable physique shape and would not respond to the comparable scientific care. in case you're in any respect uncertain no count in case you have been diaqnosed properly, pass get a 2d opinion. Describe all your symptons, no count how minor of short-lived. The well-being practitioner can't make it easier to in case you do no longer tell her or him each and everything, or in case you do no longer take the meds precisely as prescribed and checklist the outcomes precisely as you journey them.

Is she acting like she's six all the time or part of the time. If it's all the time, there may be some sort of developmental discorder as well. If it's only part of the time, it may be some part of her mania or she may have another problem like multiple personality disorder. I would call the psychiatrist and address this issue.

yeah cuz with bipolar it effects how u deal with situations.
You tend to want to stop dealing with them. Just like the way children do.
Is she on meds?
I am and they helps some but am still fine tuning.
Web md has good info.
I would ask her doctors how to help, maybe psychotherapy?
