I've noticed that as some of my friends have started having kids they've suddenly become Christian or otherwise more religious. These are people who 2 or 3 years ago would have turned their noses up at indoctrinating religion into a child's mind. What is it about having kids that makes some people suddenly change their religious behavior?

Well when you see the "miracle" of life then you pretty much have no choice...it sucks you in like a vacuum :)
Some people re-evaluate things in their life after seeing or going through a birth, death and the in between. Some people start to feel like their must be some meaning to life now because I had a baby and it must be a gift from God.
Some people just change.

Everything is all thanks to Mother Nature not some God

I had some friends who did this. When I asked about it I was told that in order to get inexpensive daycare, belonging to the church made financial sense. So really, it was for the daycare and children's activities. And I think my friends (well, my girlfriend at least) liked the social aspect as well. She met other moms that way and they took turns watching all the kids so that the other moms would have a day off here and there. So I'm pretty sure that in many cases it's for the sense of community and help people receive far more than the spiritual aspect.

When you have children, you begin to look out for their happiness more than your own. It is then that you realize that on your own, you cannot deal with all of the sorrows, pains, worries, questions, etc that your children will go through. You will also realize that there will be a time when you will no longer be around and they need to have something that will help them deal with life after you have gone or they move out of the house.

From teh aprents point of view, you will begin to worry about the happiness and well being of your kids. You are going to need someone who can give you peace when there is none to be found at home.

This is where religion comes in. Faith will help you though the troubled times and will bring, peace, joy, and love into your life.

God is someone who will always love you and will always forgive you and welcome you back into His arms, no matter what. How many people can you say will do that?

It seems children need good role models who have solid morals, so that they do not go too crazy when they become teenagers.

Being responsible for the life of another human being, such as when you have children, requires conviction when laying down rules and making promises, otherwise you could get all your efforts thrown back in your face when the child grows up and shows you all your failings. Religion tends to dictate why life is here and how we should behave best to help others, therefore it can give pointers to how best raise a child.

There is a difference in being religious and being a Christian.
Religion is just poplar today so a lot of people join the social standards by going to church. But what some people find there is Jesus. This is by Christians being a witness for God and sharing what God has done in their life.
The Holy Spirit moves them to surrender their life to God.
Of course you would want to teach this to your children as well.

You could say it's the miracle of life, but since religion is so immensely different for every individual finding one answer for numerous conversions is difficult. In my experience religion is just one of those things that will suddenly hit you at one point in your life, whether you decide to believe etc or not it still hits you and forces you to seriously take a look at yourself and your life. Maybe the birth of their child was that moment for these people and they then chose religion.

I think understanding the relationship a parent has with a child, helps us understand the relationship God has with us. Plus, we want the best for our kids, and start to take things like religion and church a bit more seriously than before.

A lot more than this changes when you become a parent. Most of the time people take different paths after a significant emotional event.

There have been psychological/sociological studies that have shown that when people become parents, they tend to become much more conservative in their thinking. I think that's why.

Conservative minded people are more drawn to establishment types of things, like Christianity, the most mainstream, established religion in America.
