I have a boyfriend that left for the army exactly 2 weeks ago from today. He went to do basic training in South Carolina for 7 months, and he still has not wrote to me by email like he promised he would. How long does it take for the soldiers to get permission from the high commander to use internet.

He won't get to use email while in basic training. Nor will he watch TV, play video games, and so on. He'll write you a letter, though.

Don't listen to the guy below me...I went to basic training at Fort McClellan, AL 10 years ago (but it's a closed base now). Basic also occurs at Fort Leonardwood.

In basic training, in the Army, you don't get email access (unless you dare cross the drill sergeants, sneak into the commander's office somehow, and send one off that way - assuming you don't need log-in information for the commander's computer). So for the next 9 weeks, you probably won't hear very much from him, unless it's a written letter.

When he gets to AIT (Advanced Individual Training) you may hear from him, depending on where he goes to AIT at. I went to AIT at an air force base, and was allowed access at the base community center right away. If your boyfriend is in an OSUT location (One Station Unit Training) it means he will go through one continuous school for both basic and AIT, and it's less likely he'll get access to a computer. Infantry is an OSUT skill, and school only lasts 13 weeks - not enough time to gain extra privileges. But don't worry, I'm sure he's really thinking a lot about you right now, if he just left two weeks ago.

Oh, and basic training occurs in SEVERAL locations. Ft. Benning, Georgia is mostly for infantry. I went to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. My brother was scheduled for Ft. Jackson in South Carolina. There is also a basic training camp out in the midwest.

It has been a while since my hubby, then boyfriend, went to basic, but there will probably not be a computer where he has access to contact you from. There is always snail mail...that is the way we kept in contact. It was about 4 weeks before I got a letter at all and then far and few in between. That doesnt mean he isnt thinking of u and wants to write. He is just very busy and does not have time for the little things he was once use to. Just be patient, he will contact you when he can and however he can.

86 mili seconds from the yahoo server

They don't get to do anything for several weeks and then they make them write to parents first. He might get a phone call about halfway through but they revoke that for bad behavior. Email means access to the Base Library and would take much longer to happen.

The DI's don't want them having a lot of outside contact during boot and it is scheduled and monitored closely..

He however is a scumbag and has deserted you. 7 months is crap and he ran away, sorry to be the one to say it first. Basic is much shorter than that with liberties and leave during the first 7 months. He should not have told you that.

You can hope for a call soon if he is true.

he doesn't get any email access while in basic training at all. Once he reports to his school, he MIGHT get access on base, but more likely he will have limited access..perhaps the base library, or if he has a laptop he can get internet access in his barracks room.

BTW.. Basic is not 7 months long.. it is something like 9 weeks or so.. after that will be his schooling.. called OSUT.

You don't have access to computers while in basic training, or AIT. The only possible chance is if you get a pass toward the tail end of your training.

As long he will take to find a Computer to log in...and all depends where is located and if Internet is available to be used towards where you live.
