I just found out my good friend died, and I had been planning on getting a tattoo soon but I had another idea in mind. Now I want to change the style to get one in memory of her, but I don't know where to put it. I was thinking the ankle, back of the shoulder, or the back of my neck. A place where I can hide it other than my back and waist. Where do you think I should put it.

Its a very honorable thing to do to get tattoo of your friend. But maybe you should wait a little bit to make sure its really something you want to do. Just think of how it would look in about 30 or 40 years when you are older. I am not saying that you won't always miss your friend, but maybe the tattoo wont look the same, or give off the same type of image you want to display when you are older.

That being said, I would stay clear of your neck, just incase you ever want to cut your hair short and don't want people to see it at work.

Maybe also the back of the shoulder for the same reason??

The ankle sounds like a good idea.

Anyways, my condolances for your friend and good luck with your decision

well im not a guy, but im a bi-sexual girl so i guess my opinion can kinda be the same lol =] i wouldnt be offended if my boyfriend got a memorial tattoo of his best friend. same if i had a girlfriend and she wanted to get a memorial tattoo of a dude best friend that died. a friend is a friend, no matter what gender. i like the whole cross with wing and bday and everything. think hard about it though. maybe put it somewhere you dont have to look at it, but you can. i wouldn't be able to get a memorial tattoo of a friend, every time i looked at it i would be sad. good luck =]

I have one on the right side of my lower back and one on the inside of my left ankle. I've found that it's easy to keep them well-covered most of the time. Another idea might be the back of the neck if you have long hair.

ETA...Been reading other people's answers and I think they have a valid point. Maybe a tattoo isn't the best idea as a tribute. Think carefully about it.

Back of the shoulder is your best bet, don't put it on the back of your neck because it will still be visible, and it does get hot so the ankle isn't good if you are trying to hide it but wear sandals at the same time.

memorial tattoos are a great way to honor and remember friends and family members. i have one and it is very special to me. you should just think about placement and how well it will suit you. i wouldn't suggest getting a tatto on the back of the neck because when you get older you will likely have short hair. you may not want a visible tattoo like that in your older age. i considered getting one when i was younger and am now glad that i didn't.
good luck!

i dont think you should do it - My very good friend died suddenly ( he was killed by a drunk driver ) and i was so hurt - i wanted to get a tattoo in his memory - but i never ended up doing it - and now 2 years later - I'm happy i didn't - once you start to heal - you want that constant memory of the loss of there life ... trust me! ... as time passes you will heal - and you will later regret it - you cant go and get a tattoo of everyone who dies ... or else your body will soon be filled with death remembrances!

buttttttttttt if your 1083120893902183019380% sure you want one of your friend - i would go with the back of your shoulder ... anything near the foot - seems disrespectful to me. Or do it above your wrist.

Good luck - im very sorry for your loss.

I think its a great idea to get a memorial tattoo. I am planning on getting one soon for myself in memory of my dad. What about in between your shoulder blades? Out of the places you suggested, I would have to pick your shoulder ... but I'd move it over to be between your shoulder blades.

Just remember, she was just a friend and it will be there forever.
My Dad got a tattoo of a friend many years ago and has regretted it ever since. I hope you have pictures of Her. Then you could have them framed and keep them forever. A tattoo's a big committment. Be very sure you want to do it.

Those are really good places to put it. However remember that on the back of your neck if you put up your hair people will see it.

I don't think it's a good idea, but if you are going to do it, maybe your arm or ankle. Thats a little tacky on the neck..you being a female and all.
