It is the ultimate sacrifice. Most parents will tell you that to watch your children hurt is the worst kind of pain.

John 3:35 says, "The Father loves his Son and has put everything in his power." (Good News Bible)
The Son was in intimate association with the Father (John 1:18), and because of his own love for mankind, willingly surrendered his life in heaven and his life on earth. "Of his own free will he gave up all he had, and took the nature of a servant. He became like man and appeared in human likeness." (Philippians 2:7, Good News Bible)
I don't know of any rational person who wants to die, or who does not consider giving his life for someone else to be a sacrifice. Even Jesus prayed that this "cup" would be removed from him, if possible.
Apart from that sacrifice, mankind would still be in sin and without hope of eternal life.
I do not believe that the Bible teaches that God sends people to Hell forever and ever. That would be inconsistent with God BEING love, even while He exercises justice. (1 John 4:8)

I do believe the ultimate sacrifice is giving up your life for humanity, laying aside yourself and your own ego to save others. It is also the ultimate joy, nothing short of living for others is more rewarding.I don't believe in the fiery hell of eternity,it may have been a way of keeping people faithful to a particular belief structure,or a carried over myth from pre-Christian times. It just doesn't sound like part of the picture.

If there was a Jesus and he was the son of god then there was no sacrifice in the true sense. God and Jesus are spirits and the body of Jesus was just for humans to be able to see him. A real sacrifice is when someone gives up their life for another. That death is final. Jesus knew he was coming back.

Knowing that your sacrifice will be returned to you is not much of a sacrifice. People interpret it that way because when they lose someone they love, there is no getting them back. Jesus was god, and by being so would be returned to god upon his death.
As a side note, who was god trying to appease by sacrificing christ? If you believe that god HAD to make some sort of attonement for our sin, then you believe that god is not omnipontent! Why choose something like sacrificing your own son as a symbol? Rather morose if you ask me.

Personally as a mother I cannot even fathom watching my child crucified. When one of my children had eye surgery to correct the muscles around his eyes, and I had to watch him suffer it absolutely broke my heart. This was done for his own good. Yet as parents my husband or I would have taken on that pain for him if possible. Any pain a child goes through and a parent has to watch without control to help them is a sacrifice.

Yeah, and if you knew your son was only going to be dead for a couple days ... doesn't seem like a huge sacrifice to me.
Also, who made up the rule that Jesus had to be sacrificed? His Dad did. Since God makes the rules he could have just said - "OK, let's try again."

It all depends on what you value. If you are a self-centered person than no, it wouldn't be. But if you have a greater love for others than yourself yes. I'm not a parent, so I can't give first hand advice, but I know that my parents would give up anything in the world, including themselves, if it meant I would be able to live. That means something.

Imagine what it is like for a parent to send his child to be crucified. Having to send him to be nailed to crass by his ands and feet and hang there....That is an ultimate sacrifice. Have you ever had kids? Do you even know what a kid means to it's parent? Well, it means a helluva lot.

Not when it was all part of the plan and a life everlasting was waiting on the other side. Don't think that's a sacrifice at all. Maybe if he suffered, died then took everyone's place in hell that would be a worthwhile sacrifice.
