I've been told my blood pressure is naturally low (usually about 90/58) but it regularly falls below this and i get faint and dizzy. My consultant has told me to eat plenty of salt, drink lots and go for walks. This doesn't seem particularly helpful. I also have Crohns disease, anaemia and crohns-related arthritis.

I am very concerned about the advice to increase salt. I have heard it given by doctors once or twice before. There is no evidence that it is either safe, therapeutic or desirable to take additional salt. In fact what evidence there is suggests the opposite is true.

The vast majority of doctors will not advise any treatment or intervention for hypotension, low BP, even if it is producing symptoms, unless it is drug induced. If this is the case alternative drugs at sought.

Even if the BP is a low normal, and 90/58 is low but does not represent disease, it would be unethical to attempt to raise it as that will statistically increase stroke risk.

Better to find out WHAT is causing the very low blood pressure, than to just treat the sympton. (That;s the problem with modern medicine- they're always treating the symptoms, rather than the underlying causes of them).. Doing things to raise your blood pressure- whether taking drugs ("medicine") or eating things that raise the blood pressure, will likely just cause more problems and contribute to poor health.
Are you taking meds for the crohns and asthma? They could be causing your problems. There are lots of good books out there on natural remedies....read a few- youi will find that you can alleviate all of your ailments naturally and through diet, and that the medcines that the doctors keep heaping on you are causing more problems than they solve and keeping you sick...and the more meds they give you, the more ailments you're going to suffer.

Also, here is a website of audio messages (when ya have some time)- scroll through the list and check out some of the ones that pertain to health and medicine...lots of good info here...and I can personally vouch for what the guy says, as I have been practicing many of the things he advocates for many years (before I even heard of him)

Crohns patients often need to drink more fluids than most because they lose so much fluid from the diarrhoea, your anaemia will add to the feelings of faintness. It is important to take adquate fluids thoughtout the day.
