let your people know exactly where you are going and what time you will be home. give someone a call time, like 9 or 10, if they dont hear from you by then, they need to call you. go to a public place. and remember that people can be good actors and tell you anything you want to hear. dont rush into something when you really dont know the person at all. talking online doesnt mean anything they could be feeding you a line.

Meet in a public place that you feel comfortable, like a bar or restaurant. Maybe have a friend or 2 there at the same time. Remember, it's easy to lie and BS someone on-line.
On the up side, I met my wife on-line. Our first date was a the bar her mother owns.

public place and leave plenty of time as you may find yourself staying with longer than you planned ---- meet in the afternoon --- it gives you time to talk and if it goes well you can have a meal together later on
