I just got a new card from them on Monday, activated it and tried to use it the next afternoon to get stamps, but it was denied. I called them and they said my account had been scheduled to close, but I didn't do that. I think the guy from CapitalOne was mad at me for supposedly making him think I was interested in the offer he was telling me about, but I wasn't; and then we got disconnected. I think he did it.

Anyway, I re-opened it and thought everything was fine. I've tried for the past 3 days to purchase something online and it has continued to be denied.

Plus, it's impossible to get a HUMAN BEING on the line. It's all just automated. I had the call the New-Card Application line to get a person, and then he told me how to get a Rep. on the Customer Service line.

I just want to work on my credit and have a CC for business purchases! What the heck? ...

What's in YOUR wallet?

You thinks that's bad?? They've become a local bank around here in Louisiana and over in Texas. You can't even call your local branch without an automated answering service. The customer service has gone from A+ with the previous regional bank to downright horrible with CapitalOne. I can't imagine ever having one of their credit cards and I feel your pain.

Now that I work for a competing regional bank, I now know what real commuity banking should be. On the plus side, we also offer credit cards through the bank. Our customer service is top notch (although minimal automated CS) and have never had a problem using my debit and credit card.

My advice would be to bank locally and get all of your financial services through them instead of a national brand that could care less who you are.

I haven't had any problem talking to a person, but I've rarely needed to. I also haven't had problems making purchases.

When I opened my CO card last year, I told the guy on the phone that my mailing address was different from my physical address. (We didn't get mail delivery at my house...I lived in the boonies at the time.) But you had to give the physical address to be approved for the card. So I told them not to mail it to that address, but rather to my P.O. box.

A month later, I called to see what was up, because I hadn't received my card. They tried to send it to my physical address, and it was returned. So they closed the account, reopened another one and sent me the card to the correct address.

To this day, it looks like I have two CO cards on my credit report, and they won't remove it. So, yeah...they really kinda suck.

Actually they are one of the better cards to use when in a country with a different currency, but that doesn't mean they don't suck in other ways. Just make sure you tell them before you leave the country. They cut off my credit card after noticing a suspicious charge in a foreign country -- a hotel bill in that third-world cesspool of corruption known as Canada. I warned them ahead of time when I went to Ireland, but they still cut me off when I booked a day tour just before I left. Fortunately I was still in the US when this happened so I could yell at them in real time. They finally pulled their collective thumbs out of their collective butts and I was able to use the card in Ireland.

Uh hu! I have 2 cards from Capital One. They were fine for the 4 years I've had them, until last February when we hit a bump in the road; We moved out of state one month, then I had to have major emergency surgery the next month. I paid, for 4 years, for account protection on both accounts, so in case of emergency, it would go into deferment with no problems. WRONG!!!!!! No deferments, no nothing. Only late charges, over-limit fees because of late charges, etc. I paid 4 years for account protection and wasn't allowed to use it when I needed it. Its going to take me atleast a year to clean up the crap they did. No more!!!

NO HASSLE MY A**!!!!!

I haven't had any problems with them. I respect them for giving me my very first credit card when I didn't have any credit at all. I can get through to a live person with no problem, did it just the other week to ask a question and they were quite pleasant.

Thanx for the info. We got our bank account in another state so we were thinking to change to the Capitol One down the street from where we live now (since they don't have our bank here). Guess we'll keep looking.
