The other night i was walking to my local shop, and i noticed a man walking with his dog quite far in the distance. It was dark but i saw the dog get down for a poo,and just wondered if the man was going to pick it up,"as you should by law now"But anyway he just carried on walking. As i got to where he was when his dog poo'd to my horror i stood in that same poo(and trust me it was fresh). So after scraping off my shoe,i carried on to the shop to see the dog tied up outside, cutely waiting for his owner,I went in the shop wondering if i should actually say something, but i didnt want to appear prudish, so i said nothing. Would you say somthing to him if that had happened to you.And be honest. Its easy to say oh ye i would until your actually faced with it.

I would have scooped it up in a plastic bag, tied it closed and walked in the store behind him, handed him the bag and said "Here, I think this belongs to you, you dropped it outside"

I wouldn't say anything. I don't have a dog but I dog sit often for my boss and I must admit that I usually only pick up the poop during the day and honestly I just dont always think to stuff a plastic baggy into my purse before leaving the house. I wouldnt say anything also because I would figure it was my fault for not looking where I was walking after just seeing a dog poop in that area.

I probably would have watched where I was walking :) Just playing..but really, people leave their dog's poo all over around here..I have a dog also, so if I see it I just pick it up even if it doesn't belong to my dog..that way I don't have to worry about stepping in it later. I probably wouldn't have said anything to the man, but I would have been seriously annoyed.

Actually, I probably would have been too embarassed to have said anything. After all, despite the law, I had seen the dog going down for a poo and seen that the man failed to clean up, and if I hadn't watched my step after that ... well, if I did say anything to him, it would have been with a big blush on my face for my stupidity.

If I saw someone who let his dog poo on the sidewalk and didn't pick it up, I might say something -depends on how big he is and how big his dog is, but if I weren't too afraid of physical consequences, then yes I would. However, if I saw it happen and then still stepped in it, I think I'd be too embarrased with my own stupidity/clumsiness and I'd let it go! I did see it, I knew it was there... I'd feel very stupid for still stepping in it, I'd pretend nothing had happened.

I would approach him, point out to him what he had done.. Expect some form of compensation and be prepared to wait for him to clean up the mess. Then report him to the council. Someone will know who he was even if he wouldnt give you his details, but would propably be local.
The fine for littering is immense these days, recently one guy refused to pay a £50 fine and went to court and ended up with £390 and a 6 month suspended sentence..! Thats more like it !

No, I would have said loud enough for him to hear to a clerk "it is too bad some people cannot take the time to clean up after their dog. I step in dog poo because of some idiot."

Yuck that's totally disgusting, i would have said something ! Sometimes we have to be brave, you would be within the law. It is after all a law to clean up after your own dog. And did you know that little children can go blind through dog pooh ! I am glad there is a law about it. Have courage !

I would by all means say something to the owner about it if you are actually there when it happens, but if you do so after the event, you are accusing him (even though you know it's true) and are therefore on shakier ground - plus I would be embarrassed to admit I'd seen it and had still trodden in it...

Yes, especially after I had the awful experience of stepping in it and then having to clean my shoe off while gagging. I have a very weak stomach. And if he wants to be a dog owner, he should be responsible and clean up after his animal. God bless****
