Do not use the serpent in the garden because there is no evidence that the serpent was Satan. Provide the evidence if you think so.

I think there was a passage in Philiponians where Got and Satan were drunk at a poker game and Satan clearly had a straight flush and God was like "No, man, my three-of-a-kind beats your straight flush". So, God created man to see who would have more influence...Him or Satan. Bud, you're not going to like this answer, but we're all here to settle a poker game.

No evidence that the serpent wasn't Satan???

Other than the text of course.

Genesis 3:1-15

How about Luke 23 or John 13... 2 Corinthians 11 is always a good one...

Tell me where in the Bible Satan is NOT defying God.

To put the question into prospective, if Satan rules over demons than what a servant or demon or evil spirit does is done on behalf of Satan....like angels and the messengers of God do things on God's behalf.

I would ask you to read Rev 20 for this passage stating "2He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan..." and rethink your position about the serpent.

Read Matthew's temptation of Jesus in chapter 4. I would also suggest read Rev 19 about the rider of the white horse to the end of 20.

Hopes this helps.

Isaiah 14:12
“How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. Those who see you will gaze at you, And consider you, saying: ‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble, Who shook kingdoms, Who made the world as a wilderness And destroyed its cities, Who did not open the house of his prisoners?"

BTW-There is great evidence that the serpent was Satan.
"He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years" - Re 20:2

No I can't, which just goes to show who is in charge. Read the Book of Job and you'll see that Satan argues with God about Job's loyalty to God, and every time Satan says "Do (fill in the blank) to Job and he'll deny you," God's reply is basically "OK Satan, I'll let you do (fill in the blank) to Job to prove your point, but you can't do any more than (fill in the blank) to him." Satan can do nothing without permission from God, and God allows Satan to tempt us because He knows that as a God of love that it is NOT love to force anyone to do things your way. God has said in so many words that we can spend eternity in His Kingdom, but if we want that we have to obey His rules. Then he shows His love for us by giving us the freedom of choice.

Revelation 12:7-9a
"And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down - that anceint serpent called the devil, or Satan who leads the whole world astray.

ok...I looked and I can't find a scripture that says that Satan defied God. I really think satan has to ask God's permission to mess with us. he asked permission from God to mess with this guy, Job, in the Bible. I hope you find it...I'm curious too now.

I thought one of the answers would be a verse from the NT, but I haven't seen any.

Just read 'Shcneb's' answer-First, Lucifer is not defying God, God is accusing him of being prideful, and second, that verse has been shown by scholars to refer to a Babylonian king who tried to build a summit above some Jewish gathering place of worship.
