There is a difference between having declared policies and actually carrying them out. Our current Government have pretended to have policies (largely contravening EU policy) to control immigration, but, have knowingly/wilfully not put them into effect. Not having any effective border controls, is, in my opinion, as extreme as it is possible to get. The BNP's policies, therefore, can't be as extreme, and are probably more sensible.

I don't think so - any tilt (or lurch) to the left or right in any party tends to be driven by socio-economic and political events as a whole, rather than what one particular party is doing.

Labour seem to have "hardened up" in their talk over the last couple of years, rather than of late, and its probably more in recognition to such problems, rather than toeing the BNP line. It is interesting to note though that support from the BNP is not specifically restricted to either the old-school Conservative or Labour voters, but draws from both.

There tends to be a wholesale lurch to the left or the right when people feel that they are either losing or have lost their economic and/or livelihoods, e.g. 20s and 30s Germany, 10s - 20s Russia, etc. It seems to be a case of extreme times call for extreme measures, and extreme parties accordingly benefit. Moderate policies are regarded as having failed and polarisation occurs.

From the qualitative evidence around, it would seem some people are of that viewpoint, which may explain an apparent rise in support for the BNP, but I doubt the Labour or Conservative Parties will necessarily follow suite and adopt a raft of more punitive immigration policies.

The only way we'll know if the BNP has increased support is after both the forthcoming Local and the next General Elections. The voting breakdown of General Elections is the more reliable indicator of peoples' political viewpoints, as local elections have historically been used by voters to express anger at governments, only to then re-elect the governing party at national level.

Yes!!!!!!

They sold us out, lied to us and now tell more lies to cover up their deceit.

We have NEVER been given the opportunity to vote on immigration because there has always been a cosy little arrangement between the three main parties not to rock the boat.

Well the BNP is offering the voters the choice and believe me the big parties are running scared!!

The other answerer that equates the BNP with Nazis needs to grow up. The BNP are simply espousing what the three main parties used to preach until they sold out to monopoly capitalism and the likes of Rupert Murdoch.

No they haven't.

Mainstream parties simply apply EU rules regarding immigration, whereas the BNP wants to stop virtually all immigration except in special cases.

The answer is no, but why go on discussing trivia when we have left everything to late. As a country we are rapidly on the downward track.

No they have not, but to a degree, and a disgusting one, the mainstream parties, as you describe them, are emulating the policies of the BNP, in the foolish thought that they are stopping the flow of voters to the loony party.

It s also fear, and with MP's not wishing to lose their seats, they pander to the nounces who read the Sun and Mail, thinking that being a hard 'my name is John Reid' man will somehow make them look more attractive to the voters.

The firstpremise is false, for the BNP will never, because we will shoot them first, gain a real foothold in the UK. The second premise, fear, is also empty as a policy, because f people are going to vote BNP, all 3 of them, then acting the hard man will fool no one.

Mind you, there is always the third premise, which I prefer to refer to as the 'turd' premises, based upon the individuals who spout such ideas. This premise is that many MP's, and Ministers, no longer have to hide behind the facade of being Tory or Labour, and with the opportunity to bash the black man, Asian and Muslim, call it terror, call it immigration, I call it racists.

The turds who stand on this premise, up to their necks in shite and money, are usually Northern MP;'s and Ministers, reared in racist homes, but cleverly hid it for all of these years.

You wait, watch and see, the likes of John Reid being first in line to collect their brown shirt, herding the immigrants out of the Country, tagging Dementia sufferes, house arrest for Roma's perhaps, and little yellow badges look nice on your breast pocket.

The likes of John Reid would be as happy in the BNP as he pretends to be in the Labour party, our beloved vehicle with plentyof seats on board for all types, but not the racist nazis like Reid and Blunkett.
