Why do guys whistle, honk, stare and other things of that nature? I'm not trying to bash or put down guys. I just want to understand why. Do you get some kinda thrill out of making a girl uncomfortable by staring or whistling.
I don't approve of guys doing it, but I think I understand it's just a guy a thing to do. Just clarify it for me. Don't just say "it's a guy thing", that doesn't help.
In my opinion, it seems stupid. To honk at girl and then floor it down the street? Ooh, Baby, let me run 50 mph to catch you...you must be a dream.

Again let me state, I just want to understand. I'm not insulting guys. I just want to know.
Curiosity and women, you can't seperate the two.

We are fascinated by all things female and feminine. It is in our hormones to stare and get emotional all your lovely curves and girl ways. It produces a wild emotion in us, and that often produces stupid outbursts. It is hard for us to control it, and often women do everything they can to produce it in us. We are hoping you will find it attractive and are usually disappointed in the reactions. Please accept our apologies.

How can I put this?

I don't actually do it...often, so I guess the reason would be the desire to get together with the women, checked by lack of time, lack of guts, lack of parking spaces, or lack of knowing how to do it.

It IS a guy thing to do. Sorry it makes you feel so uncomfortable, but you might try looking at it as flattery - how will you feel in a few years when NO ONE honks. (No one ever honks at me!)

Get this audiobook: Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.

First, the narrator's voice is hilarious, I never laughed so hard in my whole life! Second, it explains some of the reasoning, and much of the behavior.

Also, the honking might be the local equivalent of giving beads during Mardi Gras - like primative urban flirting.

And btw - we have triple the sex hormones you do, and our levels are not cyclical either - so imagine the most aroused you've ever been, imagine it three times as strong, and imagine it being there ALL THE TIME. I'm sure you'd do some strange things too.

Personally, It's not really my thing, but you should take it as a compliment. The men involved here are not immensly complex creatures. I'm sure they think that women understand that a whistle translates into "Wow, you have an amazing body and beautiful eyes." That's the optimistic answer. The more realistic answer is: They are a bunch of ******* and like to make a big scene in front of their ****** friends.

LOL...put it down for male bravado. "Childish" men will do just about anything to be "noticed" by an attractive female, but just a poor fisherman, after he gets the girl's attention he doesn't know what to do with it. Just realize they might be in a man's body, but they're still little boys inside. Real men are considerate at treat women like ladies...at least the onces that act like it...you know what I'm talking about. "Those" kind of women can be attracted by a boy who does a "wolf call" and drives down the street at 50 mph. LOL
God Bless

it seems as though most guys have a hard time approaching random women, so i guess it's just a lame way to communicate an attraction. i think it's an insecurity issue, or an abundance of testosterone. notice how it always happens with a crowd of guys for the most part. probably has something to do with the same instincts that make us scream at the TV during football games, etc.

let me again stress lame.

There is an urge we get when we see an awesome looking women. Its not disrespectful and its not meant to be. Sure its juvenile and i really don't do this as loudly or outwardly as you describe. But I have on occasion thrown a hardy stare towards a great looking lady. I think women should be flattered. You will one day wish men where noticing you in older years. Cheers

I think that most guys who do this particular thing assume that the female they are directing there attention to at the time, finds it cute. However, for most females like yourself, its not cute at all. Personally, if I want a females attention I do my best to communicate with her verbally not by using my cars horn or whistling at her. I also believe that it all depends on the maturity level of the male as well. Hopefully that helps to give you some insight in to why most guys (EMPHASIS ADDED) do the things you made mention of in your question.

I like to look at women, I don't whistle, honk or any of that rude stuff.
What most guys are thinking are.. "if I get her attention, she'll probably think I'm attractive, cool and interested in her and maybe I can get a date."

yeah, it's stupid, but so are most of us guys LOL.

Not all women dislike or feel uncomfortable with that kind of attention. When it happens to me, I think, "Yes! I've still got it!"

Think about the animal kingdom. All male species put on some display to attract the opposite sex. It's instinctual.

guys tend to do this when they are with friends..i rarely notice guys doing it when they are by themselves...i don't really think that it "means" anything, just something that has been done for years...its kind of part of our culture now...and it is a compliment for most, cuz guys don't whistle or holler at just anyone, most of the time....btw...love the comment "ooh, baby, let me run 50mph to catch u"...loved that, funny :-)...good luck....
