I just got a new job in New Orleans paying 9.50 an hour and I wanted to know, working 30 hours a week, how much can I expect to keep? Please help me. I've been doing research on the state's websites but I found little or nothing helpful.

I'm marked as single, claiming no Dependants.

That depends upon your filing staus, number of dependents if any, amounts of any deductions, etc. Your income will also affect this significantly since the income tax rates are graduated, meaning that the higher your income, the higher the tax rate.

Check out the handy estimators at http://www.paycheckcity.com They're pretty accurate.

7.65% for Social Security and Medicare, up to 5% for Federal Income Tax, and less than 1% for Louisiana tax.

Total estimate about 14%. Employers vary greatly, your withholding for federal or state may be less.

Well first it depends on what your claiming...married / single / any dependents...etc! Mandatory they will take FICA and Medicare...which I believe is 7.65% + more depending on what you marked on your W4
