My friend Paul recently bought a new house. By new house I mean a newly built house, brand new, no one else had ever lived there. He had the plans for this house before it was built and therefore had the dimensions of every room. Paul went and bought a wardrobe for his new bedroom. This wardrobe was too big for the room.

Did he send it back saying "Sorry despite having the plans to the house and all the dimensions and everything, and in fact having lived here for a short while and owning a laser measuring device thingy which meant I could have measured the room myself, I got the dimensions wrong. Can I swap it for a wardrobe that fits?" NO

Paul has spent the last week knocking down a wall in his new house and building a new one 6 inches away.

So once again I ask you. Is Paul an idiot?

Idiot
Definition: A human being destitute of the ordinary intellectual powers, whether congenital, developmental, or accidental; commonly, a person without understanding from birth; a natural fool; a natural; an innocent.

According to that I would say yes, your friend Paul is an idiot. But, he's an amusing one so keep him around for laughs.

Yes Paul is an idiot, he should've sent the wardrobe back and got one that fitted. Did you not advice him to do this at the time?

yes paul is a whopper of an idiot!
but then again he sounds like a typical man to me
he doesnt want to admit his mistakes that he cant measure so by sending the wardrobe back he would be admitting them!!
its a man thing

(-: Sounds like Paul really, really needed a hobby -- and just found out the joys of Home Renovation.

Look on the bright side -- you can tease him about this for years and years! Just don't let him buy any furniture when you move into a new house (-:.

I think so...but unfortunately there are lots of people that don't really think things up....anyway...maybe the firm that Paul took the wardrobe from doesn't accept to swap their things...

Perhaps he is enjoying himself, he'll know if he is an idiot if he has inadvertently knocked down a load bearing wall and the whole thing comes crashing down.

I think idiot might be a tad harsh. But maybe he just really really loves that wardrobe.
