So I just got a bichon frise puppy. The owner told me if he tears a lot, which causes staining under the eyes, to use hydrogen peroxide to wipe the staining away and then apply baby powder afterwards. Well the hydrogen peroxide doesn't seem to be workin all to well. Anyone had similar problems with their own dog and found a good solution?

Pampers fragrance free baby wipes will help, but must be used daily..works for the dinner stains around his mouth, too.
I have heard of several breeders giving Tums daily. One toy poodle breeder said he gives 1/4 of a Tums..The English bulldog breeder said 1/2 of a Tums twice per day..SO, it seems worth looking into, but I would be certain to clear it with the vet first.
Hey! you guys above who recommended an holistic dog food! Thanks! Four of my dogs have cream (nearly white) lower legs and feet. I have always had trouble keeping that red staining that light colored feet get (long haired dogs) under control, and even freshly bathed dogs still had stained feet. (especially between the toes)
However, I have been feeding Canidae for the past three years, and haven't had that problem anymore..I thought it must have had something to do with our moving..

Hi we run an international site for bichons owners, breeders, vets and showing , we are asked this on a daily basis.
www.eurobichons.com

I personally recommend ANGELS GLOW it will clear this little problem up within 2 weeks.Setlers tums are ok on a short term basis, they shouldnt be given to a pregnant dog. I have also heard of people using a zinc based barrier cream, Zinc absorbed through the dogs body continually will kill it.

pampers contain lanolin dont use this either.

Angels glow contains tylosin a mild wide spectrum antibiotic.
ok for pups and pregnant b itches too.

Its caused by shallow eye sockets that the tear dycu weeps as in every dog, but it standsout in white ones.
Yeast devops and bacteria too in the stains, thus it turns red.

If you would like any more help then pop in and meet other owners breeders etc
its free to join and with over 130,000 page hits in just 3 months its becoming the best place to be for bichons breeds help and advice.

I personally own 14 Bichons Breeds , we welcome all Bichons Frises, Maltese, Bolognese, Lowchen, Coton De Tulear, and Havanese.

Food doesn't really affect it don't feed wet food to avoid beard staining but for the tear staining there are some medication things you can buy to prevent it I believe it is called angel eyes but i think the best way is to just take a warm washcloth with water and rub it under their eyes

I too have same puppy with same prob. They sell stuff @ smaller pet stores that will work better. The more expensive one is better(forgot name). You have to keep at it @ least 3 X's a day. And this is going to sound silly but Give puppy bottled water not tap. This advice came to me from a long time Bichon owner. It does help, but not completely. I myself am going to take her to a pro groomer and have them do it and ask a ton of Q's . I suggest you do the same. Add me to your contact list so I can remeber and when I find out more I will e-mail you through yahoo answers.

There are lots of products designed to remove tear stains from white dog’s eyes. The stains will be worse if you are feeding dog food that has artificial coloring.

I have a white poodle that had this problem until I switched her food over to Canidae.

www.canidae.com

Food can effect this problem ALOT.
Try a TRUE holistic brand.
I've heard that Eagle pack is a good one too, like the post above mine says...

this is caused by dies in the pet food. switch to a holistic brand with no byproducts or grains or preservative, etc.
