My Grandma says I have big bones? My Mom says water weight. My Dad says muscle mass. I've been dieting & exercising and notice major changes : my hip measurement went up an inch and I lost 2 inches in my waist, my thighs are firmer and my calves are tighter, my stomache is flattening and I can see the begining of a six pack. I'm not on a fad diet I eat five small meals containing protien, carbs, fruits, veggies and dairy. I walk five times a week for 45min to an hr & 1/2. I weight train once a week & do cardio twice a week. What am I doing wrong? Why am I shaping up but not actually losing weight? According to the height/ weight chart I am overweight.
so my questions are 1. is it water weight? big bones? muscle mass?
2. do I actually need to lose weight to meet the height/ weight chart? (115- 130lbs)
3. keep doing what I'm doing?
I'm happy with my body I just want to tighten up but I started in Jan at 160 & I'm still at 160lbs just wondering why.

thank you all, I thought 115- 130lbs was unrealistic because I did get to 125lbs once and I felt awfull, I looked sick, my hair started falling out. So basically I should just keep doing what I'm doing?

Some people just have heavier bones than other people. I'm one of them -- I look about 20 pounds lighter than I actually am.
BUT, don't let that stop you! Because it's really easy for that old scale to keep creeping up and creeping up.
It sounds to me like you are converting fat to muscle (and muscle is heavier than fat). Maybe you need to give it a little more time to work -- you are seeing results in your waist, at least!
If it really bothers you, though, keep a food diary. You will see exactly what you are putting in your mouth, and you can add up the calories. AND, if you decide to see a doctor about it, then you can show him/her what you've actually been eating. It may be worthwhile to consult a nutritionist after you've kept a food diary for awhile.
But, it sounds like you are doing a great job and getting fit! Good for you!

You are doing really well, but you have to remember that if you lose fat and gain muscle, you won't see much difference on the scales. This is why it's important not to be overly concerned with your weight, but concentrate on your body fat percentage instead. This is the percentage of your total body weight that comes from fat. If this is going down, then you are doing well regardless of what the scales say.
Yes, you may well be large/heavy boned and for you to get down to 115lb-130lb may well be unrealistic and unhealthy.
Definitely find out your body fat percenage and then you will know exactly how much (if any) you need to lose.
Good luck : )

If you are exercising, it may seem like the scale is not moving, but that's b/c muscle weights more than fat, so you may even see an increase. From what you are describing, you seem to lead a pretty healthy lifestyle, you may have certain bone structure that will prevent you to be a size 0 or 2, but that does not mean you are fat. One way to check this is by measuring your total body fat percentage, that can be done in a gym, where they do assessments before you start any regimen. A special device measures your body fat in various places anf then the person calculates your overall body fat. Women should have around 19-21%.

It sounds like you are doing good things to get healthy. Your only mistake as far as I can tell is listening to other people and expecting too much too soon. I lost 60 pounds on weight watchers and would recommend it to you as a good source of information and inspiration. Basically they teach a combination of decreased calorie intake and increased exercise. By learning how to eat better (which is sometimes a question of what a person eat and sometimes is simply a question of how much that person eats) along with the exercise you are doing, you would probably be very successful on their program. Why don't you check out their website and see if it might work for you in conjunction with what you are already doing.

Well if your lifting a lot of weight and not just toning you're making muscle mass so you'll lose fat but not weight you may even gain weight
but if you look fine and your fine with your body there shouldnt be a problem
im 5'8" and 200lbs but i'm only 12% fat so im not that over weight and if you have no fat at all you couldnt live...

probably muscle mass if you are lifting and stuff as well, you should be doing more intense cardio exercise..if you have beeen doing the same routine for a while, it is likely that your body has become accustomed to it, try switching your walk into a jog, and with the same routine you should notice some weight loss....if you dont want to be bulky, be sure that you are using low weight with lots of reps, this will make your exercise more of a toning routine rather than a muscle building routine...but if you are happy with yourself, then so be it....jogging instead of walking to get your results...good luck

Well If your building muscle then your weight may not change. Muscle weighs more than Fat. Try doing more reps with less weight. Unless you want to get stronger. Heck you sound perfect to me.... But then I like curves...:)
Most important if your happy with the way you are then why change anything.
