My 16-month-old sometimes poops in the bathtub. We can't catch her before she goes because she doesn't have to strain -- it just pops right out when she squats or gets laughing. She is too young to start potty training. We try our best to wait to give the bath until she has already pooped after supper, but she doesn't go every night. What else can we do?

My 20 month old son used to do this. We didn't figure out how to prevent it...He just stopped on his own. We figured he was just so relaxed and couldn't really help it. We would take him out, clean the tub and toys really well, and then give him another bath....Maybe try giving her a bath earlier in the day..

This is just something that happens and you really can't do anything about it. Simply make a non-judgmental comment such as, "Oops, you made doo-doo in the bath water, let's get it out and put it in the toilet." I always used some toilet paper to scoop it out, put it in the potty, and flush it down. Then take her out, drain the water and run her new bath water. Warm water has a calming effect on bowels. Having a bowel movement in the bath water is very common and without making a big deal of it, she'll grow out of it. Just one of those things you deal with and think "This, too, shall pass" (no pun intended!), a saying that has gotten me through 27 years and counting of being a mom.

unfortanely nothing...poop happens!! My son does the same exact thing..it's the warm water that relaxes the bowels..I have tried changing the time i give him a bath but it does not work. Pretty soon, she will be potty-trained and this problem will be a thing of the past and then it will be a fond memory....lol
