Make sure that you're drinking enough water. Many times a hunger craving is just a signal that you are thirsty. The next time you have a craving, drink a glass of water. Wait 5 minutes and if you are still having the craving, give yourself a small portion of whatever it is that you are craving. If you deny yourself the things that you want to eat, you will never be successful in your diet.

Don't consider it a "diet". In the US, "diet" has a negetive definition. Yes, my animal and animal produce free choice is a diet, but not in the traditional, pop culture definition. To me, it's not a diet, but a lifestyle. It's how I choose to live. As a result, I know that I'm better for it, health-wise and spiritually.
Look at what you're eating and not eating. I eliminated junk food from my diet after learning what was and wasn't in them. Such as high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup and anything hydrogentated, partially or fully. Yuck. I dont' eat potato chips any more, for instance. Most days, the junkiest thing I eat is a bowl of air popped popcorn with Smart Balance spread (it's made with all natural oils; I would by the soy spread but it's a bit more expensive). However, my husband has bought me some very yummy sugar free dark chocolate. That's great for cravings. And the chocolate is much better for my baby than the Hershey's milk chocolate.
Although, today, I'm going to have some whole grain tortilla chips with my tomato soup for lunch since I'm out of bread and need the grains. (Just a few months ago, I would have skipped the grains, maybe even have a smaller lunch, but since I'm pregnant, I have to cover everything at every meal, it seems.)
If you're craving something, eat it in small quanities, just don't go overboard.
Also, before the pregnancy, when I was craving something purely junky (Yes, I'm human), I would have a diet cola. Calorie free, but still junky. Now, I get the occasional craving for a Diet Pepsi, but they're almost too sweet. I guess it's because I have one maybe once every other week. Now, when I want something with more kick than just my regular filitred water, I add some lemonade and sweetner, just enough to give it some taste. That's very sufficient, especially when I want to get a leftover food taste out of my mouth, or I'm eating something spicy.
Along the lines of La Ma's comments.... Read "Fast Food Nation". I had been off the fast food for about a year and a half before reading that book, having already learned what was and wasn't in it and knowing where meat and diary comes from. (Most dairy cows do not live in idealistic pastures like the cheese commercials.) Yet, after reading that, ICK.

Just force yourself to eat only healthy foods and within a few days the cravings will become less. Perhaps tell yourself that if you really truly crave a fast food burger you can have one on the weekend, make it a small one, get a diet coke with it and no fries. Make sure you eat plenty of lean protein in your diet, so you don't get hungry, and lots of greens to give you vitamins, don't eat carbs late in the day. Good luck with your diet.

it's very hard, but what I did was think of the goal u want to accomplish. I am a junk food junky. I'm 5 ft. tall, my ideal weight is around 125 lbs. I got up to 170 lbs. and looked like a beach ball. my boyfriend lost all interest in me. after I left him, I set my goal weight at 125 again. giving up the sweets was worst than trying to quit smoking, but I thought " I have to get this weight off if I'm gonna get another guy to notice me."Sorry to ramble on like this." I started to replace some of my best junk food, like ice cream, with fruit. I started drinking Slim Fast during the day. it doesn't really taste that bad, & there are a lot of snack bars that are really good. when I started to see some lbs. come off, it gave me the insentive to go on. I'm not saying that I didn't cheat now & then. but between the Slim Fast, & a sensible dinner, (try to eliminate anything white; white bread, cream sauces, whole milk to name a few) I finally reached my goal weight and went from a 14 to a 4 in clothing.I kept on the diet for about eight months. now it's easy to maintain my weight. I know they always say to excercize, which is a good idea (I was always to lazy) If I could shed the lbs, anyone can. and now I have met a wonderful man & I'm so glad I stuck to my guns. of course, my old boyfriend wants me back in the worsed way. to bad. good luck, I know u can do it! if u need to talk, when u get those awful cravings, u can e-mail me. I'd be more than happy to talk u through it.

Get a job on the night time clean up crew for a fast food restaurant - you will be so totally digusted you wont be able to stand the smell of french fries or hamburger or anything cooked in any type of grease. Besides - hauling those jugs of used grease is very good exercise along with restocking boxes and boxes of items that have to be carried from one spot to another.
Good Luck - I know it isnt easy!

Make sure you are eating regularly and choosing the lowest calorie options but still eating things you enjoy. When you are craving foods drink lots of water, that will fill you up and also drinking warm water will make you feel full. good luck!

if you are too strict with the diet you will only crave foods. what are you craving? chip? eat a handful of tortilla chips with salsa. craving chocolate? eat one small minuature. if you tell yourself you cannot have it your body will want it that much more. just eat a little of it.

You need to be strong emotionally. Alot of ingredients in processed foods are inserted intentionally to make them addictive. They come up with new ones every year. It's becoming as tough as quitting smoking or other bad habits.
