Generally speaking, many jurisdictions have specific regulations concerning the use of unmarked vehicles for traffic enforcement.

Normally, marked units will conduct traffic enforcement although lately it appears that unmarked or "low profile" units are being utilized in traffic enforcement.

In my own jurisdiction we employ the use of all three (marked, low profile, and unmarked)!

Based upon experience and your comments it appears he gave you a audible warning to get you to slow down as I'm sure you did!

Remembering you share the roadways with others, responsible speed constraint could save your life or MINE!

Best wishes!

If he legally clocked you, then yes, you could be mailed a ticket.
Oh, and by the way, you won't get a ticket from an unmarked car. You'll get a ticket from the police officer inside the unmarked car. Cars don't usually issue traffic tickets.

Yeah he just gave you a warning. Generally they have cameras set up to record the incident if they are going to mail you a summons.

Yes. Other vehicles are also used to check speed, and photograph your car.

Just as easily as you can get one from a traffic light camera.
