do you know that all he said to me (the vet) was that he would give me some tablets for her to help with her paw licking, when i asked with concern, "well can you tell me about the tablets, whats in them, will there be any side effects, and is there any bad about them , do i need to be aware of anything to monitor my dog", he said to me, "these tablets are fine, they will only make her a lil more thirstier and hungry", he never told me this was a steroid tablet, or that there was any risk or harm.

If your dog's allergies are severe, then prednisone may be a good course of treatment to get an outbreak under control. However, I personally think pred is too drastic for most allergy cases and a really poor option for long-term treatment. The vet I work for has some dogs with very severe allergies and I have never seen her recommend prednisone for long term treatment...she would much rather try diet, bathing, and allergen injections. You should talk to your vet about other options for treating your dog's allergies. If they are unwilling to give you any other options, then you should seek a second opinion.

About 12 years ago, we found a little shih-tzu wandering the streets. We brought her home, and noticed she had inflamed skin. So our vet prescribed prednisone. At first, she would only have to take it once in awhile, when she had flareups. About 6 years ago, or so, her skin allergies became bad enough where she has to be on it full time. I hate that this seems to be the only solution, because there are sooo many side-effects to prednisone. Prednisolone is supposed to have less side effects than prednisone, but we did switch her a few years ago, and I thought the side effects were worse!
She drinks alot of water, and is always hungry. Long term usage of prednisone can cause other health effects, such as cataracts, diabetes.
She is now about 13, we think, and does have cataracts, which breaks my heart, because she used to just love to go on long walks, and sit and stare out our front door for hours at a time. She gets around the house really well, but can no longer jump up on furniture, cause she can only see very close up. She's a trooper, tho.
I have also tried to just give the tablet every other day instead of every day, and the side effects aren't so severe. You could maybe try that, and see what happens. One thing you cannot do, is suddenly stop giving the pill all together. You have to wean off of it gradually. If you ever decide to stop giving it, please get a cessation schedule from your vet, because if you suddenly stop giving it to your dog, it can cause damage to it's system!

What is the most important information I should know about prednisolone?
You should not use this medication if you are allergic to prednisolone, or if you have a fungal infection anywhere in your body.
Before taking prednisolone, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, and about all other medicines you are using. There are many other diseases that can be affected by steroid use, and many other medicines that can interact with steroids.
Your steroid medication needs may change if you have any unusual stress such as a serious illness, fever or infection, or if you have surgery or a medical emergency. Tell your doctor about any such situation that affects you during treatment.
Steroid medication can weaken your immune system, making it easier for you to get an infection or worsening an infection you already have or have recently had. Tell your doctor about any illness or infection you have had within the past several weeks.
Avoid being near people who are sick or have infections. Call your doctor for preventive treatment if you are exposed to chicken pox or measles. These conditions can be serious or even fatal in people who are using steroid medication.
Do not receive a "live" vaccine while using prednisolone. The vaccine may not work as well during this time, and may not fully protect you from disease.
Do not stop using prednisolone suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when you stop using prednisolone.
Wear a medical alert tag or carry an ID card stating that you take prednisolone. Any medical care provider who treats you should know that you take steroid medication.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7pt
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Get em is right. Sorry morronscan'twin always remember him as get em gang.
You need to find the problem. Steriods can be very damaging and they should not be prescribed for everyday use. Usually its more like every other day and slowly cutting down the dose.
Talk to your vet about benadryl and work on finding the allergy. If it is just the paws I would say its something in the yard.

Pred is best for a short term treatment for a sesonal allergy problem. The mad hunger & thirst is partally dose dependent and you might want to talk to your vet as to if a smaller dose might be able to control the allergies without the side effects. My one dog is on pred for life (not for allergies another medical problem) but his dose is so low this isnt a problem.
Since many of these skin allergies are actually a food allergy you might want to consider switching to a different food - one with a different protein and grain source. Solved my cats skin allergy problems (why in heavens name would a cat be allergic to FISH). Some of the more noval foods (Venison, duck, fish base) are actually manufactured for food allergy problems
