i dnt want to offend any1 but what do u think of drivers above the age of 60?

i was just drivin down the road an sum guy scared the live out of me. i was driving down a dual carriage way an he just started to drive in to my car takin no notice i had to speed up so he didnt hit me. then wen i got behind him i was beepin him an he was stickin his finger s up. im so angry this has happened a few times to me, what about u guys has it happen to u an what do u think about the MAJORITY (not all of them) drivers over 60. shud they take there test again ??? thanks

EVERYONE should be retested -- written and on-the-road -- every 5 years. Period! The accumulation of poor driving habits knows no age barrier. Any younger drivers tend to accumulate bad habits at a much higher rate than older drivers do.

I would worry about drivers under the age of 21, drivers of a more mature age have far more road experiance. It is not just a matter of getting behind the wheel of a car and driving. You need to be aware of what is going on around you at ALL times not just some of the time. It is very easy to be distracted by the slightest little thing. Like everything else in life experiance is essential. I am 66 years old and have not had an accident for there past 40 years. that is not becouse I drive slowly that is becouse I drive senably. If a road has a 50 Mile per hour speed limit that does not mean you have to go at that speed. As long as you are between 40/50 that is quite exceptable. There is no need to put peddle to the metal. simply drive awareness. That is the key to driving safly keep your distance from the car in front, then if he stop's suddenly you have a good chance of stopping before you hit him. Drive safe now you all hear'in me.

BOTH of my parents are excellent drivers ages 60 and 62.

I often get a good chuckle out of these sort of questions as many times the people who ask and complain about older drivers forget that they too are going to possibly live to that age and need to drive as well. Its not a matter of needing to retest every driver on the road, that is logistically impossible, creates an added expense and staffing demand for motor vehicle testing agencies.... People need to learn how to share the road, accept that they make mistakes and other people do too while driving. Lets not make asinine laws that will only hinder us when we're older, and grant us the common sense to realize when we need to give up driving.

If you were angry then you have lost the argument. No matter what age you are an angry driver is a bad driver.
Blowing your horn won't help
Sometimes the more elderly the driver then the more experience they have.
Don't be in a hurry you may find you will get to where you are going quicker.There is an old saying "More haste less speed"
Do you drive now as though you were taking your test?

I am always bemused when this question is asked. I wonder if the people who pose the question ever consider that it may be themselves at fault rather than the "old fogey! in front of them?

Perhaps they should also consider that at some point in their lives they will be the driver of the car in front?

If they succeed in banning them - as some people do suggest at times, then how will they feel when it happens to them?

As a general viewpoint I see no reason why ALL drivers should not be required to take some sort of test at regular intervals. It is not only older drivers who have bad habits.

Some of the critics would do well to look at their own driving habits. They may get a surprise.

Yeah I do agree with you - my grandad drives and hes 94!!! he has a brand new car which is already covered in dents lol, all he has to do is show a doc's certificate and off he drives (and his insurance is cheaper then mine on a newer car!!!) Grrr! Mind you if i took my test again, don't know that I would pass, some of the 17 year old boy racers cause more risk then old people, but in terms of stats could simpy mean there are more younger drivers about!

What a load of rubbish. Sixty is not particularly old - the majority of people that age have not been incapacitated in any way and have many, many years driving experience under their belts. If you'd been saying drivers over the age of eighty, you might have had a point as reactions do slow down, but sixty? That's just silly. There are good and bad drivers of all ages, but give me a sensible sixty year old over a nineteen year old boy racer with a car that outstrips his capabilities any day. I'm in my thirties by the way, in case you're wondering.

I agree - SOME older drivers can be dangerous - I have come across a lot of incidences where they have put other road users at jeopardy.
Its not only that but road rules, driving techiques & highway codes are changing all the time - From when they learned Im sure it is totally different now.

I think you should be re-tested at a certain age. Not the full test that you have at 17, but one that checks you are basically a safe and aware driver.
My grandad is 80 and still driving and I refuse to get in the car with him...... like the death cab!

ha ha love it bet you get some grief with this question.
Get what your saying but it is a bit ageist you could really say that about any collective group, women, boy racers, asian drivers, just cos you've seen a few bad drivers doesnt make them all bad.
TBH if I was a perfectly good driver and had to take my test again cos I hit 60 I would be fuming, it's hard enough to pass first time, and everyone picks up timy bad habbits doesnt make you dangerous though!
