Well insomnia can be a real problem for some people. There is not that much that can be done for one night. Sometimes I might watch a movie or read a book.

Other times I will just lie in bed and fantasize about (non-sexual things). I will make a story in my head. Often I will go to sleep quickly while doing this. Maybe you can work on a plot for a hollywood movie or your answer to the Harry Potter books.

Other people I know do things like clean their house, or anything that is productive.

In the long-term you have to look at reducing stress, maybe getting more exercise or doing relaxation exercises.

I like having a shower (in the dark!!) and then crawling into bed....it seems to help relax the muscles.
I also like using lavender oil (either on the pillow and/or as a shower gel).
I have also found magnesium can help me get off to sleep and is good for general muscle tension (make sure its the chelated or easily absorbed and take it about 20mins before bed)
Don't have caffeine (teac, coffee, coke or energy drinks) drinks after about 3pm....I get really affected by them. I feel tired but my mind buzzes!
I sympathsise with you and hope you can get through it. It can feel like torture!

Try taking hot milk before sleeping--this is what my grandmother taught me when I was in fifth grade and it never failed me.

Start with a clear head, lay on your bed, push out anything that might disturb your sleep, keep your head blank--sheeps may help however, I usually end up trailing off and thinking about other stuff so I just keep it blank.

Hope this helps! :)

it really depends on how long this has been going on for. if it has been months than you may have to consider taking sleeping pills but i would be really careful with that. before you go to sleep put on some lavender hand/body cream, lavender is suppose to calm you down and help you sleep at night so that could help. also if you do some excerise during the day it is really easy to fall asleep at night.

I suffer from the same problem.
In fact, I'm going to have to stay up all day.
LOL.

Anyways, I've found just laying there, perfectly still, no distractions, helps. Stiffen yourself perfectly and tell yourself..."my toes are relaxed", and move from there up to your head. Read a book until you're tired.
Try your hardest not to turn on the tv, as you may find yourself staying up to watch whats on.

Hope i helped. :]

count sheep or half-close your eyes and blink fast and continously for as much as you can until you feel really sleepy. or you could try putting on some classical music and dim the lights, put lots of pillows around you and picture the blue sky.
