This is just out of curiosity. I would like to connect with more people on here that believe in what I believe in. Include in your post your favorite scripture from either the bible or the book of mormon. There really couldn't be a "best answer" to this question, so I'll just let you know right now, that I'll pick the "best answer" based on the scripture quote that I favor out of everyones.
Take care and god bless!

Please no "anti mormon" posts. This is for me to connect with people who ARE. I respect differences of opinion on this matter as long as you RESPECTFULLY present your standpoint.
However you aren't going to be able to change my mind on what I KNOW to be true. I've read the book of mormon, I prayed about it and I GOT my answer. The difference the gospel has made in my life is undeniable to me and everyone who knew me before.
I pray that you too will do some soul searching and read from the book of mormon and pray about it. I know God will answer your prayer, he answered mine.
The best to you and yours,
Sarah

Good morning, Sarah. I am sixth generation LDS. I came to Yahoo Q&A because I felt that I could help dispell some misconceptions about what we believe.
As for my favorite scripture, it is hard to say. Choosing from thousands of pages of inspiration for one favorite. The first one that comes to mind because it played an important part in my own personal conversion is Isaiah 55: 8-9, "For my ways are not your ways sayeth the Lord...for as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." That is a bad paraphrase but you get the idea.
My second scripture would be D&C 6, 8 & 9. Those three sections explain how to understand the answers to prayer. They were also very instrumental in forming my testimony. I tried them and found them to be true. I felt the peace and comfort of a positive answer and I also felt the stupor and confusion of the wrong answer. I have used those verses throughout my life. By the power of the Holy Ghost, ye may know the truth of all things. Moroni 10:5.

Hey, Sister!!
My favorite passage... hm... there's so many! Do I have to pick just one?
King Benjamin's speach- the part about how God has given us so much and all he asks for in return is our obedience, but then when we're obedient, God blesses us and we're still in his debt...
Ammon and King Lamoni- Ammon was such a great missionary- everything about how he handled the situation with Lamoni was picture-perfect!! Start by serving... Start teaching by finding out where the student is, what is already known...
James 1:5, cross reference it with Moroni 10:3-5... what a thought!!
There's also a story in Acts 5-- Peter and "the other apostle" (John) were preaching Christianity at the temple, got arrested and thrown in prison. An angel freed them in the night, and the two apostles returned to the temple to preach. Again- arrested, in prison, an angel frees them, and back to the temple to preach. Peter and John are arrested a third time, and brought before the council. Peter said something they didn't like, so the council wanted to kill them... Read verse 35-39.
I find it kind of ironic that this same kind of thing happened to Joseph- he was arrested repeatedly and eventually killed. Those who killed him hoping that by killing the leader, his followers would disband..."But if it be of God, ye CANNOT overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God."
And I think the whole point of this mortality exercize is sumed up nicely in Abraham 3:25- see if we can be obedient.
Edit: Beast 896- that's a good one!!! Father Lehi's sermon on the necesity of opposition! Thumbs up!

Hey there, Sarah. Nice to meet ya. I'm 18 years old, and a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This Church has blessed me in so many ways.
Honestly, I'm not sure if I could pick just one favorite scriputre from the Book of Mormon, but one that does stand out to me was the theme for Youth Conference last summer. It's a pretty well-known one.
D & C 115: 5..."Verily I say unto you all: Arise and Shine Forth, that thy light may be a standard for the nations"
I think it sends a great message about providing an example...the Light being from the Lord, and how if we "Arise and Shine Forth"...the wonderful influence it can have on ourselves, and those around us.
As for a quote from the Holy Bible, like the Book of Mormon, I'm not sure there is one that I could pick as a "favorite", but I always enjoy reading Matthew, particularly Matthew 5:8, which states..."Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God"
Great question, by the way. Feel free to email me if you want to talk about anything, or just to say Hi. Take care :)

I am LDS... Have been LDS my entire life. Personally, I really like 2 Nephi 2:13.
"13 And if ye shall say there is no law, ye shall also say there is no sin. If ye shall say there is no sin, ye shall also say there is no righteousness. And if there be no righteousness there be no happiness. And if there be no righteousness nor happiness there be no punishment nor misery. And if these things are not there is no God. And if there is no God we are not, neither the earth; for there could have been no creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon; wherefore, all things must have vanished away."
It's good for dealing with little children who complain about too many rules, too... I read it to them and they get scared they will vanish if I get rid of the rules!
Also, I like the entire chapter of Jacob 5... it is so profound, and yet the symbolism fits so perfectly... It makes me wonder if everything on earth was created such that it can be symbolicly associated with the gospel.

It's a little long to post here (the longest in the entire Book of Mormon).
I also like the scripture that Kerry posted.
I really don't know how you can pick a best answer on scripture quotes either though -- they are all so great! How can there be a "best" scripture either?
Thanks for asking! I'm going to add you to my network.

I am a Latter-day Saint!
My favorite scriptures:
Isaiah 12:2
2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
D & C 76:22-24
22 And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!
23 For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—
24 That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God.
There are of course many many more scriptures I could give, but the power from those two verses makes them my faves.

Sure, returned missionary and everything.
Have a lot of favorite scriptures. Here is a good one in 3 Nephi 15:9 from Jesus Christ Himself:
"Behold, I am the law, and the light. Look unto me, and endure to the end, and ye shall live; for unto him that endureth to the end will I give eternal life."
I would have given you a Bible verse as well but I left it at home and this is being answered at work. Have a super day, and I send you a virtual gummy bear.

I'm LDS!
My favorite scripture is D&C 18:10,15 (I'm about to go on a mission!)
10. Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God;
15. And if it so be that ye should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father.
But, out of the Bible or Book of Mormon...
James 1:5 is good, but
Mosiah 2:41 I think is my favorite
41. And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true for the Lord God hath spoken it.
Nice to meet you, Have a great day! :)

I'm surprised you hadn't noted the LDS members by their replies on other questions beforehand. But among my favorite Book of Mormon scriptures is:
"Whatsoever thing ye ask the Father in my name, which is good, in faith believing that ye shall receive, behold, it shall be done unto you." Moroni 7: 26
Incidentally, Sarah, Mormon is a proper noun and the name of an ancient prophet in the Americas; hence the reason we capitalize the word.

Hi,
I'm LDS. I've connected to several people here.
My favorite quote is really the whole book of Enos. I have several quotes I really like from the BoM and the other standard works. Another favorite quote is "Adam fell that man might be, Men are that they might have joy."
I haven't looked at the other answers yet, I hope you get respectful ones.
Miranda, my favorite D&C scripture is the same as yours! Cool!

I advised another young LDS about attempting to meet 'friends' via Y!A, or even the internet in general. Because it is an anonymous meeting place, and many posts are regarding religion and "mormons vs christians" in particular can be rude, vulgar or obscene, not everyone is what they seem. Because of that, I'd recommend meeting other members by visiting other stakes and wards. It's safer, and you won't be subjected to people who disregard your posted wishes.
However, if you ever wish to discuss doctrinal issues regarding the mormon church, gird your loins, don your armor and come out swinging!
Addenda: My favorite verse was "And my father dwelt in a tent", but I'll leave it to you to find the verse and chapter. It's the only one I could remember...
