Beans w/ white rice. I can make the beans but it always is red ya know the basic beans w/ potatoes. I was at a party, and the host made beans w/ white rice and it was awesome, but I don't like asking the cook. It was more a brown color. What is a different reciepe? I normally use sofrito, sazon, tomatoe paste, pink beans, potatoes etc. I know there is a million ways to make beans.

Black beans and rice:

Dressing
4 teaspoons ground cumin
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
2 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Rice
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
2 cups water
1 cup basmati rice
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions

1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained & rinsed
1/2 cup chopped roasted peppers (from a jar is fine)

Stir 3 teaspoons cumin in small dry skillet set over medium heat until just fragrant, about 1 minute.
Remove from heat and whisk in lime juice and oil, set aside.
Stir turmeric and remaining cumin in heavy medium saucepan set over medium heat until fragrant, about one minute.
Add 2 cups water, rice and salt, bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to low and simmer until water is absorbed, about 15 minutes.
Allow rice to cool and mix in green onions and half of dressing.
Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Combine black beans, all peppers, cilantro, chipotle chilies and remaining dressing in a medium sized bowl.
Toss to coat and season to taste with salt and pepper.
Presentation: Mound beans in the center of platter and surround with the rice salad.

There is a simple recipe we cook here in El Salvador, called "Casamiento" (literally Marriage) that has rice and beans combined. Try it, maybe you will like it. (It is also a great way to use left over rice or beans)

"Casamiento"

Ingredients

-2 cups of cooked white rice
-2 cups of red beans paste (just put some cooked red beans on your blender and process)
-100 gr/ 3 1/2 ounces of margarine
-1 1/2 tbsp of oil
- 2 tbsp of chopped onion
- 1 green pepper, chopped or julienned
- 1 very chopped garlic clove

Procedure:

Melt the margarine over medium heat with the oil, and sautee the onion, garlic until it softens and becomes lightly browned, add the pepper and cook for a couple of minutes.

Then you can remove the cooked vegetables or leave them, either way, add the bean paste and cook at low-medium heat, moving constantly with a spoon, until it thickens a little. Add rice, and cook for about 10 minutes.

Voila, that's all. Hope you like it!

You have stated the phrase beans a ways too normally. If I had a nickel for whenever you stated the phrase beans, I could have a couple of nickels. But they could be vain to me as I am a puppy.

If you don't want it red, don't use red ingredients - like tomato products.

Caramelize the savoury ingredients that you use to start the dish, and that will infuse some brown throughout your finished product. Using darker coloured beans will help with that as well.

The best beans I have ever had were Navy beans and Ham Hocks. Served with corn bread.
