That there are more bigots amongst the religious fanatics than atheists? Do you consider this to be inhumane to fellow humans and therefore hypocrasy?

I have a friend who was indoctrinated into Christianity by his parents, he was also born a gay man and struggles with this rejection by his church and this makes him sad, this is just the first example that springs to mind that makes me believe religion is inhumane

religious fanatics, YES, religious people not sure, I just think the world would be better if religion did not exist, the only reason people belive in god as far as i can tell from the ansers to my question, is coz someone wrote it in a book thousands of years ago when no one knew better, it seems lots of people still don't.

I do not think there are any more bigots among religious fanatics than atheist fanatics. Both groups are passionate about their opinion and both are intolerant of any opinion or theory that differs from theirs.

I do not consider this inhumane. They do not lack feelings or compassion for people. They are zealously devoted to their cause.

There would only be hypocrisy if they were only professing beliefs that they do not have.

Meh... everyone is a bigot at some level...

It is just a matter of coming to terms with it and accepting it as an inherantly flawed part of the self.

Religious fanatics aren't any more bigotted than anyone else.... They are just more vocal about it, and more removed in their own nature from the ability to relate to others.

Hate the sin...Love the sinner
As a Christian I have been taught that even if the action is one that goes against my beliefs to treat that person as I would want to be treated. One of my oldest friends is a gay man, who was also raised Catholic and we have chosen to disagree without being disagreeable. If Christians follow Christ example of treat others as you would want to be treated bigotry would not exist, but alas we poor humans are not always so Christ like.

Absolutely yes, and not inhumane unless violence occurrs, hypocritical yes, as well as just plain stupidity, thus it's very sad that so many people allow themselves to absorb the propaganda that's spread like cancer via so-called religious doctrine:(

I agree with you. History has shown that under corrupt religious leaders, unspeakable crimes have been commited. But God had forseen this and had warned us that this would happen--by their fruits you shall know them. By 'fruits' he meant the doings of Religious Leaders and not so much the flock that follows them. The flock is mislead by them. This is why, although a christian myself, I am finding it hard to belong to any certain religious group.

Because people who believe in God hold fast to absolutes, it seems strange to atheists who go wherever public opinion lies in their era. Unfortunately, the defenders of the absolute moral code are therefore seen as bigoted for not going with the crowd.

I don't know, go to your nearest institute of higher learning, walk into the Biology class, or science, or antropolgy, and tell them you are a Creationist, and do not believe the theory of Evolution. Better have on some really thick skin.
