Yes... metaphorically speaking, it is.
To put it another way though... it is an infectious gross simplification of a path to understanding, leading far from the intended destination and off into wilderness of fancy....
It is an escapism that the mentally incapable can use to feel better about themselves and avoid the harsh truth that the Universe doesn't even know they exist... much less care about them.
So yes... it is a crutch.... though admittedly some fall to it only because they don't know they have the choice not to.

And who is strong enough to take the miserable conditions of life lightly? You may think you are strong, but what about if something like in VT would happen to you or your son? We are not independent. We are in the cruel hands of our destiny. We are been tossing by the waves of this material existence, some times on the surface, when we are thinking we are OK and some time we sank in the bottom, when we are in miserable conditions. There is a Supreme power and we are just puppets in the hand of the laws of nature. Nobody can say: "that is not going to happen to me" We are doomed in this world, old age, diseases and death are waiting for everyone.

I am a great believer in live and let live.
Therefore i have friends from many beliefs/religions.
To be honest we very rarely discuss religion, we accept one another for who we are and what we believe in, and thats it.
I do know this they are just average people going about thier lives harming no one in the process.
Some are of very strong character, so i would need to say no !!!

i dont think so! A religion is a belief and practices. It is also an ideas, philisophy, experiences which separated human being as individual. Like it or not, in the end of the day it is religion belief and practices which going to save us. The truth that people need something to belief in, to hold on to, so that they can taste peace at the time when they need it the most!It doesnt mean that by believing in religion, you are nothing but a sappy and weak person!
For those who dont believe in religion, they have something else to believe in, something else wich can give them peace in soul and body. Example sciencetology! They may not believe in god but they believe in something else. And this believe is what matter to them just like those whose have faith in God and religion. My point is that we are only human and the need to belong to somebody, some instituition, some religion, some believe never leave us and it wont make us less weaker compare to those who dont believe nothing at all!

Feeling is something you cant just stop it overcoming your mind. But religion helps us control out minds and bodies when emotional.
I am afraid of ALLAH that makes me live in the sepcific limits.
"If any religion had the chance of ruling over England, nay Europe within the next hundred years, it could be Islam."

No. People who follow a religion really do believe it's teachings. For many it's an all-or-nothing belief. They never waver in their faith for a moment, it's that strong.
There are some who would crumble without their faith. These people aren't weak, it's just that life may have been extra hard on them and they need something to hold onto.

I think that it is a deep rooted knowledge that somebody other than us exists and is watching over us. All humans have it, yet some dismiss it and others cultivate it. It depends on the human. However it is much more difficult to live a life with 'rules' of a religion than not, and I think religious people show a lot of courage in life.

What a fitting description!!! But it still does not help them, it just take them far away from real life. Religion makes people zombies, and does not allow them to live their God -given lives fully. It takes away their potential and makes it an illusion. Religion leads people to live deluded lives
I think it should be destroyed.......how, I don't know.
It makes what is real fiction and those who follow it live fictitious lives.
