The only thing I didn't tell my mom was about my sex life. Everything else was pretty much open for discussion.
Now, if I'd ever called her anything but "Mom" I'd have been dead before I hit the floor. I know what you mean about the names. I work with a 16 year old girl that talks to and about her mother like that. Well, used to, she doesn't do it in front of me anymore because I told her I'd swap her dirty %&*#(@&^@*#&@# mother for my DEAD one. I proceeded to chew her out and remind her that MY mom was dead and I'd give anything to have her back to "be mean" to me one more time.

I don't think that it has to bo with being best friends, but respect.
Mothers and daughters don't really get to be best friend, (or even friends) until the daughters reach a maturity level that is comparable with the mothers. This is in adulthood, usually when the daughters become mothers, themselves or at least become quite independent and learn more about the world.
As teen daughters, mothers can cnotbe good friends because there is a developmental difference.
But, both can still respect each other.
And, Daughters still need a mother, they don't need their mother stooping to be a teen friend.
Even though thye are not "best friends," though, both can still understand each other and respect each other.

Mothers are mothers, not friends or best friends. Some are or try to be. Most of the time it doesn't work well. For those who feel that way, congratulations to both of you. Mothers being best friends find it hard to play the role of mothers.

I think grown ups have a different world but trust your mother can be your best friend as long as you dont get muddled up in the two very different worlds of your not-so-serious and your mom's soo-tiring-so mature life. Get it?

My mom is definitely my best friend. She is the only one that hasn't stabbed me in the back. We hang out all the time together, and we never argue. Maybe you and I are just one of the lucky ones. I can't imagine fighting with my mom.

as quickly as I first went to my mum and informed her that i develop into questioning of leaving my husband..........her answer develop into to stay mutually yet stay separately, so as that i does not embarrass the relatives by divorcing!!! whether as quickly as she realised the severity of what develop into happening in my marriage she develop into very supportive. whether, not considered one of my acquaintances ever presented any help or help, i did not even get one telephone call from all and sundry, so it develop into an extremely lonely and depressing time for me. yet I made the suited determination, as i'm now thankfully married to a amazing guy, and have an incredible lifestyles.
