How could a bullet increase its momentum after it exits the barrel? It can't. The shooter did have 2 different guns though, a 9mm and a 22, and depending on the door, its possible that neither caliber could penetrate. As far as determining what exactly the bullets were, hollow points or not, you will need to wait for the forensics report to be released.

Depends on the Door and the Ammo.
FMJ could penetrate a solid core door but it would lose a lot of velocity.
JSP, or Hollow Point will mushroom or frag on impact with a solid object.
Scuzboy had a 9mm Glock and a P22 Walther.
If I were in college anywhere in the country I would apply for a CCW permit and inform the college of my intent to carry. If they didn't like I would find another college where I would pay tuition.
Don't be a victim. Don't be a sheep.

My understanding is that a 9mm Glock and A walther .22 was used. That being the case, the penetration through a solid wood door is not likely to occur. This would be esp. true if JHP were used and not ball ammunition. You also have to fiugre that the door to the class room were fire rated and thick to reduce noise, as well as being able to be locked in the evening after class. These door would be much more substantial than a door in a house or apartment. Look at the below web site on penetration of varous rounds of ammunition.

The reports say when he bought his Glock 19, he also bought 50 rounds of "practice ammo". I take "practice ammo" to mean budget FMJ ammo.
I don't think he knew much about guns or ammo enough to handpick the most lethal loads and bullet types. I seriously doubt he used hollowpoints.
The rest of the shooting was probably done with his .22 Walther. (I'm guessing he wasn't thinking about wound ballistics or stopping power when he made his purchases).
I don't think 9mm or .22 LR rounds can penetrate a thick classroom door very well.
In any case, I'm glad the psycho is dead.

The shooter used a glock 9mm (either Glock 17 or 26) and a Walther P22. 9mm could possibly penetrate the door depending on the ammo he used. I am not sure if hollow point is illegal in the state of Virginia or not as it is illegal in many east coast states, such as New Jersey.
The reports I heard were that he basically didn't even use the 22 and stuck with the 9mm.
Overall, I doubt that he had the sophistication or training in firearms and probably bought random ammo. He was clearly a deranged maniac whose sole intention was to shoot as many people as possible as fast as possible. I doubt he thought about what type of ammo to buy or how it would penetrate objects.

He used a 9mm and a .22 both semi auto. I dont think a 9mm bullet would go through a heavier door, which is probably what they have. they have to have certain fire-proof doors for insurance, and i know a bullet cant go through one of them suckers, but they are normally just in hallways. classroom doors made out of wood, i dont know, i would guess it would if you were shooting straight at it, noty at an angle.

from what I understand there was a 9mm pistol as well as a .22 caliber pistol involved. .22= high velocity/low mass; depending on the door, who knows?

Psycho Cho used a Glock 9mm and a Walther PT-.22, both bought legally under U.S. and VA law, but if his mental incarceration had been made public record, as it SHOULD have been, it would have shown up during his background check, and he would have been denied purchase of BOTH WEAPONS! ! ! !

the primary weapon was a 9mm. the army and many police agencys quit using the 9mm because of penetration problems. example: it took more than one shot to penetrate a car windshield. this is why the military and many police agencys now use .40 cal. handguns. the secondary weapon was a .22, but they were unsure if it was even used, last i heard.

The next question is, how much anti-gun sentiment will we have to put up with over the next few weeks?
