Trains are safer, comfortable and cheaper option any time.
You can book yourself on Golden Temple or Swaraj Express. These are fast and stop at Surat as well as New Delhi. There might be few more good trains but please enquire at railway reservations.
By road, it will be very tedious and tiring journey to Delhi.
