I've read this term several times on this forum and I'm not really happy about it.

Would you use this term to describe anyone who does not believe in Muhammad and the Quran?

Are you aware that not believing in Muhammad and the Quran does not equal hating Muslims?

Are you aware that openly speaking about one's disbelief in Muhammad and the Quran or believing that Isalm is a false religion does not equal hating Muslims?

One can be skeptical and critical of Islam without fearing it.

I believe, though, that for a fair number of Americans, it's a package deal.

Islamophobia is not equal to the rejection of islam. And I believe you know the answer. Islamophobia is when you demonize the muslims and make them less human so that they will be discredited in the eyes of people thereby treating them as THE OTHERS: to be feared of and avoided. While you have the right to criticize islam, the sensibilities of its followers must always be considered (in any given congregation for that matter not just islam). And besides it is your responsibity to do analytical criticism not islam-bashing eventhough you hate the religion so much. Start by reading the Qur'an now...

Well, I wouldn't say that Islamophobic would be used to describe hate to muslims, but to take the word literally, Islamophobic is made up of two words which represents Islam and fear, as the word phobic is the word for fear.

It can be used to describe an anti-Muslim or someone who is afraid of Muslims, say... Islamophobia = fear of Islam.

We are very much aware that there are only 1.6 billion muslims and rest of the communities are non-muslims.........But being a non-muslim and hating the religion is different thing........We respect the non-muslims and respect their believes too........but who has given this right to some haters to bash our religion all the time?? ..You don't agree with our believes , thats your right, but we also have some rights and that is to believe in our religion.........then why the hell people like Deep Sky come here and trying to make us and rest of the people believe that islam should not be respected and muslims should not follow it and whoever follow this religion is evil?? I have seen question who do not agree with islam and they come for debates and we muslim do respond that asker with respect.becuase afterall we are open to discusion but you see it needs a very high tolerance to see people insulting our religion with literal abusing and then expecting us to say "thank you for your kind words" ....thats impossible for us ofcourse !! Don't agree with our religion but don't insult it........becuase even we have that much right to love our relgion as any christain , jew or other non-muslim have !...........Am i wrong?? i wish we could develope some tolerance for each other........Love is so rare huh!

peace be with you and thanx for letting me speak out my disappointment !

Sweetie, there is a difference between disliking the religion
and hating the people who follow the religion.

How would you like to be called stupid, a killer, doormat and so much more.
I get hate mail, because I'm a Muslim from people on this site.

You can hate my religion, but please don't hate me.
I have nothing to do with terrorists.
I'm just a college student getting prepared to pay bills like an adult.

Islamophobic should describe people who attack Muslims for their faith just because they don't like Islam.

From: icarus p

Subject: Whatever you say, my friend....

Message: If you are proud of being a doormat for men, being beat and relinquishing your rights, then hey...more "power" to you lady.

This is so ignorant. Any woman converted to islam needs a lobotomy.

Good luck with that.

Don't bother writing back...you are on my spam block list.

You see, he dislikes me, because I'm a Muslim. He has never meet me, but he is already judging me.

I'm not stupid or retarded for becoming a Muslim.
How would you feel that somebody is calling you names, because you choose a religion that works for you?

I never heard the word until now but I think it describes me exactly. I'm intrigued by all kinds of philosophies and religions, and I've never yet met a person I couldn't love, but since it seems that a large group of psychopaths are using Islam to front their cruel games, I am truly scared of all of it. You could label my fear a different way: I love life, and would like to see it continue for myself and everybody else.

I agree with you. It seems to be a new tactic now a day to label someone phobic if they disagree with you. It is almost like an attack technique. If you don't agree with homosexuality you get labeled a homophobe. If you don't agree with Islam you get labeled an Islamophobe. Sounds like all the "labelers" out there are really free-opinion-phobes and don't want anything expressed that they disagree with.

You don't see constantly labelling it as a "false religion" as a tad insulting perhaps?

A phobia is a fear of something, not a hatred of something.
