The first thing you should look to do to become a fighter is join a school. Either find a school that offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing/Muay Thai/Kickboxing, Wrestling or all of them. If you can't find a school that offers all of them you will have to go to multiple schools. Some schools even offer a MMA class.
Once you have found a good school to go to you should train as much as you can. If you don't like the ground game (Jiu-Jitsu) work on your striking (Boxing/Muay Thai) and wrestling (so you can't be taken down). I personally would work on all aspects of the fight game. Unless one of the apects of training you enjoy more than others. Maybe you love to box but hate wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu. Just become a boxer than. Or maybe you love Jiu-Jitsu but hate getting hit. You should be a Jiu-Jitsu fighter who fights in tournaments such as ADCC if that is the case.
After you have some experience you could talk to your instructors and see if they think you are ready to fight. I would listen to them because they, more than anyone, will know if you are ready to step into a ring or cage. There are always local shows that need fighters so you don't have to rush into anything before you are ready.
I would also say that you should go to tournaments for things like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, etc. The more you watch other people the more you learn. You might even be good enough to participate yourself. You should consult your instructors/trainers for this aswell.
Good luck.

Being a martial arts fighter requries intense physical preparedness. You must train your muscles all the time. But your biggest weapon is your brain. Go out and meditate. Try to synchronise with the nature. Learning the nature's secrets will help you beat anyone. Physical strengh comes second. Use your brain to find ways to exploit your opponent's strengths. Feeling every move of the nature (wind, sounds etc) will help you to achieve high alertness and invincibility.

Well since I can't teach through internet, however I can say this. Just run toward your opponent and flail your arms all over the place like a wind mill and hopefully you knock him out. However don't come to me and cry when you get your beat up.
