I am 19 years old. I have had my wood bead necklace that I have made myself since I was of 14 years of age. I am very attached to it. I would die if it were to come off. It has never been off of my neck ONCE at all, EVER!! lol... I was wondering if it would make a great gift idea. It is like showing someone that you care enough for them to sacrifice something in a way (though of only material possession, but still), and that they mean a lot to you. Is this a good gift idea? Yes or no? and Why?

NO!!!!!

You are 19 years old. Don't give away something like that. Sorry, but the friendship or love affair will end and you will not get the necklace back..

If anything go to the craft store and get the supplies to make your friend one. That will show JUST as much affection. Items that are made by you are more affectionate. PLUS now the other person has something that almost matches yours and will create a common BOND….

There are many philosophies about gifts. One is based on the cost to the giver. Some feel that if the "price" is high, it means the giver really cares. Price can be money or emotional price, such as you are suggesting (a treasured keepsake). Another theory is the gift should be suited to the recipient. What do to they want? A reflection of the degree of caring is the extent the gift meets a deep need or want of the recipient. Then gifts can be political or even meant to influence someone other than the recipient (such as giving to demonstrate your capacity to give). Remember, gifts have importance to both the giver and the recipient...but not necessarily the same way. Do not expect that because a gift means something to the giver it will be received with the same degree of importance.

Yes definitely. It means exactly what you said. The person, who you give it to, will love it. It shows trust.

I think so, because if you are so attached to it and the other person knows this, then they will know how hard it is for you to give it to them and will respect it.
