I have been looking through the category of religion and spirituality today and I have been disturbed by the amount of unhealthy intolerance that people are showing one another. Some messages are plain abuse and some questions are just inconsiderate and anyone who leaves a non-abuse message about their opinions or beliefs is criticized by other users. It really is quite disgusting. It is not just one group or another. It is everyone. Every faith that I have ever encountered or looked into usually promotes peace and love and yet it is the fundamentalists who slander and abuse one another. No doubt, I will also receive some abuse for daring to pose such a controversial question (sarcasm intended). So tell me, why are so many of the people who post questions and answers here so disgustingly intolerant?

I think some people missed the point... I am merely openly discussing my observations and asking the yahoo answers community is they agree or not... if i somehow came across as being intolerant, I do apologize though i fail to see how I may have done this. Furthermore, I did not realize that being fundamental was a bad thing. If you re-read what i wrote, i was merely pointing out that fundamentalists (people who really believe) seem to be the ones slandering others the most.

Because many people still believe they are in their little community and don't want to understand that the Internet has transcended international borders.

On the Internet, you can and will meet people from every religion, following different teachings and from different backgrounds.

The biggest mistake a lot of people do is that they believe the Internet's laws are exactly the same laws their little corner of the world has. If not, it should be. They believe that they're right, and that everybody else is garbage and have to know that constantly. Those people have to mature to be able to tolerate the Internet and the different ideas people hold on it.

I want to let you know that I think you have asked a very intelligent question, I don't feel the least bit threatened by it and I am prepared to discuss this issue fully.
I feel that most of the questions and answers here in this forum do fit the description you have outlined. Worse, most are poorly researched, knee-jerk reactions without the slightest consideration of actual Biblical evidence.
To those who do research their questions and answers from the Bible, I must say BRAVO, and keep it up! Jesus taught us by example that it is possible to apply scripture to every situation.
Jesus also showed no tolerance of false religion. His ministry on Earth was one that was specificly geared toward identifying false doctrine and teaching correct interpretation of Bible prophecy.
The Sadducees, and Pharisees were "sects" from the Jewish tradition that had become so steeped in false doctrine that it was necceccary to enact a "world-wide" door to door preaching campaign to set the record straight.
The notion of religious tolerance is based on the idea that it is not possible to know what is the right course to follow. But Jesus said, "I am the way". In other words follow me, do as I do, do as I say. In effect he said there is a way, here it is written in scripture, because he always prefaced his teaching with scriptural quotation.
He also warned us that men would "tickle" our ears with sayings that would appeal to our own desires. Thus, the divided religious climate of the world today.
If you can throw away your pre-conceived notions about what you think religion should be, or what your family told you, or what your pastor told you, or what you've always done, and read what the Bible really says. Then you'll find that everything in this world is exactly as it should be. That is the way it was foretold it would be, in the Bible and you could throw off your frustration and confusion. You would then KNOW because you read it in the Bible exactly what God Requires of You, and What The Bible Really Teaches. Most people cannot do this by themselves. There is even scripture that covers this that says, "how can I know... without someone to guide me?"
There is one organization on Earth today, just as there was only one "organization" on Earth in Jesus' day that teaches directly from the Bible. Who has accomplished an Earth-wide ministry and door-to- door preaching work to teach the Bible, and not man-made doctrine. And they do this all thru voluntary donations, asking not one penny from you or any of its members.

The major issue they teach that no other group teaches is the issue of God's right to rule his creation. HIS right to determine that there is ONE right way to worship Him!
He laid it all out for us in writing so there should be no doubt.

I don't think any question is inconsiderate, as we should question everything. If any offend you, I would just ignore them and not answer them.

I am an atheist and find most of it amusing, some very disturbing, but overall very interesting. It doesn't concern me that I am constantly told my views will get me entry to hell, because it is the same as if I was told I had to go the Cindarella's ball - I don't believe in hell.

I know the feeling,
look back at a few of mine, people ask questions like:
"Why do these idiots beleive that........"
"why does this group always....."
"why dot xxxxxx do this...?"

I point that not every member of group X hates group Y
and they beleive the same things....
but some people refuse to see it

and I get a thumbs down because they are stuck in their beleifs.

I point out in their own religious text what im talking about,
thumbs down....

dont ask a question if you dont wanna hear the answer.

I never called anyones beleifs stupid.

but I have called people a complete &$%#@ idiot
for saying that they know 120% what someone else is
thinking, esp if they never met.

someone asked why arabs hate christians,
i pointed out that mary was mentioned more times
in the koran than in the bible.... and got flamed
mentioned that Mohommed went to see mary's tomb
and got a thumbs down

they keep saying only this group kills people for religion.
I mentioned the Irish fighting between the
catholic and protestants..... ouch... got nasty emails

some IDIOT (yeah im saying here...) wanted to know why
mohommed was not in the bible.......
well.... 600 years after christ...... i wonder why...

people wanna know... why do jews do this....
why do mormans do that......
why do christians hate......everybody....

well... try to tell them that EVERYBODY is not like that
one guy that your dad went to school with.....
and they hate you.... because "daddy told me they were
demons" err...whatever.....

unless you are God......
(and please say hi if you are watching dude...)
dont argue about who loves him more,
most of you people have no idea what the $%@& you say

"yeah, i heard Jesus never told a lie and he chopped down his fathers cherry tree"
--ok..
learn what you are arguing about before you try to argue

people dont even know what they are arguing about...
they just argue because its popular to.....
and they hate people who are different.

(yes I agree with your "further details")

Intolerance is the least of the truthseeker's problems. The real problem is twisting it up. People use deception and hate those who cite passages/data. I cannot tolerate the cultist, I admit.

You are blanket attacking everyone and labeling people fundamentalists, no wonder why you expect abuse.

That seems to be what religion brings out in people. It's been that way throughout history, even though religion preaches tolerance, the people who follow said religions are very intolerant of other religions.

I believe that as a member of the Flying Spaghetti Monster religion that our mission is to spread understanding and tolerance to all religions. I have been laughed at, ridiculed but I am still persistent in the belief of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, it is as real as Lindsay Lohan herself.

I see it like this,if we really believe in Christ and are following His Gospel to the best of our ability then were is the room for intolerance and elitism?
So it occurs to me that these so called Christians are not really doing this and it shows in their attitudes, where is the compassionate and gentle Jesus in their lives, and is this the face of Him who died for us that they are promoting?

It is better to be told the blunt truth than to be told a pretty little sugar coated filthy lie to make someone feel good in the flesh.
