what do you mean ....should they? If you have weaned then there is no reason. Have you had a new baby and now the toddler wants to go back to breastfeeding? You need to give a bit more info on why.

It depends on how long after, why the child was weaned, and what else is going on in the child's life. If the mother is still producing milk and the child self-weaned, it was probably just a phase and there isn't really any harm to going back to breastfeeding. If a child weaned during a pregnancy wants to nurse along with the new baby, the new baby should get to eat first but there is no problem with tandem nursing. If the child is over 3, then it is a need for connection and closeness and may be a time when a child is nervous about getting older. If this is the case then the child should be given lots of attention and affection and allowed to be themselves and not pushed to be "grown up" but a return to nursing is probably not wise. The best answer is to talk to the child's doctor.

The way you've asked your question leads one to assume you are still producing milk? If so, it can't have been that long since the child has been weaned.

If I'm wrong in my assumption, and, in either case, the child should not re-start. Maybe the child is having adjustment issues? Perhaps a visit with a child psychologist is in order? At the very least, consult your family physician.

A few months after my son weaned, he asked to breast feed again. I went ahead and let him and he hated it! Sometimes the easiest way to handle this situation is just let them. Most kids will not like it anymore, but will not feel rejected. This way it is their choice not to nurse.

I don't think so. It could potentially cause problems for the child.
