If two people meet online and chat each day feeling better about the relationship, will the need for money be a deciding factor about the future? Money and distance? I wonder if a love friendship could prevail that began only in March 2007 on yahoo messenger

Dating ordinarily involves proximity. So if you do not live close enough to be together or have the funds to travel then your dating relationship is necessarily doomed.

Sounds like you may have just gained one more pen pal unless you can significantly improve your fortunes soon.

The need for money would become a deciding factor if one or both partners don't have sufficient funds to visit one another. If you want a relationship to survive, you must have as many physical meetings as possible. Both people have to invest equal effort in maintaining the relationship. It's important to frequently do little things to show that you care for one another--such as chatting often and sending each other letters and e-cards. Because face to face contact is infrequent, these gestures will help both people feel secure. If both partners aren't willing to work, one person will feel cheated and it will end. My LDR's have generally not been very successful for this reason. However, I don't think this means LDR's are doomed per se; they simply accentuate the problems for people who were already incompatible. For example, a lazy or uncaring partner will be that way regardless of distance. If both people are dedicated to one another, it can work. Good luck to you and your crush, and I hope it works out for you!

I am one of the few positive outcomes of a long distance relationship. My husband and I met online on a single's site. We ended up talking on the phone every day. He was living in Montana, and I was living in Ontario Canada. Long story short, we are now happily married and have a daughter. It is possible. Both people need to have the same relationship goals.

Usually the ones that need money or is financially unable are dating scams. I've seen interviews about women getting scammed from this dating thing. She dated this guy for years only to know that he was actually a fake and used several other e-mails as pseudonyms. Be careful, the ones that are usually fake are from Nigeria and other parts in Europe......

But hey, maybe some are true.. we never know :D

I am going to have say what you give into it, is what you get out of it. I mean, if you are willing to take a chance on a stranger, then hey, go for it. But just know that with online relationships, you never know the truth about that person and if you think you do, how will you ever really know??

Lets just say that there r more things to be overcome with distance dating than normal dating relationship ..hence it totally depends on how much effort each is willing to give , which in terms is much higher than in dating with just a gal or guy thats in the neighbour ...

i think long distance dating is great... you have your own space & time... and you miss them even more... dont fight as much because when you're with someone who lives right around the corner you're more likely going to take things for granted...&&& communication is the key to a great relationship...and if you communicate well then perfect... plus a friend of mine met her guy thru aol or something.. and theyve been happily married for about 4 yrs now.. and dated like 2 yrs...

I'm a pessimist. I tend to believe that people usually just fall in love with people who happen to live near them. :) But generally, the farther away, the less chance of it working. A few states away is no big deal though.

i would give it at least several months before making any serious decisions like moving (SERIOUS commitment). but if you still like each other after that...arrange a few visits together....etc. if its meant to be...then distance wont matter and money will be there when you need it....if God wants you two to be together. ;)
