Get a children's bible. I had one when I was a kid. It will leave out those kinds of passages and be written in a way your kids will understand.

Okay, it may be important to protect children, but each of these passages, in my mind are okay if the appropriate method of explanation is used. (and yes, sometimes "when you're older" is one of those methods.)

If you are looking for a good version, ICB (International Children's Bible) is a good one. It's what we give to primary and younger in our church if they ask for one that is easier to read than NIV but still has verse numbers. (but I don't know about the censorship issues)

One question; do you let your kids in when you watch the news? If so, they've probably seen this stuff already. You could integrate what is on the news with what the Bible says about the nature of the world.
