First off, people are not born religious. Religion is something that is taught. So one does not choose to be non-religious. One chooses to be religious.

As for the spiritual part: That would depend on your definition of the world "spiritual". According to my Oxford American dictionary:

spiritual |ˈspiri ch oōəl| adjective
1 of, relating to, or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things : I'm responsible for his spiritual welfare | the spiritual values of life. • (of a person) not concerned with material values or pursuits.
2 of or relating to religion or religious belief

If you're referring to part 1, most of us are spiritual in our own way.

If you're referring to part 2, well, since we aren't religious, I guess that doesn't apply to us.

I think I may be a non-religious yet spiritual person. I sometimes go to a great church where Christian rock is played in a very intimate setting. I am open-minded about God. In a way I feel I should not choose a religion out of respect for whatever he or she is because I don't believe anyone on Earth could possibly comprehend what God consists of. As long as the religion does not contain fanaticism where cutting off heads is the norm and treating people as you would be treated is the norm then all is good.

They shouldn't have to. They have a choice, just like you do. That's like saying "If people choose to be religious, why can't they be only spiritual (no specific religion). People have the right to believe whatever they want. Live and let live.

Sounds like Depok Chopra, what does that mean?
If someone does not have a belief system in religion(higher power).
Then they are themselves governed by their own reasoning, thus being led by trial and error.
What is so spiritual about this.
Sorry if I sound cynical, but I am getting tired of people saying that people are good inside.
We should finally wake up and see that man is evil if giving the choice.
What would you do if you found a sack chock full of cash?
Turn it in? I bet over 90% would keep it.

As a Christian my answer would be why do they have to. It's about choice, God gave us all free will and the ability to choose.

If they choose to be non-religious (which many atheist's aren't...the newest religion is evangelical atheism) and if they choose to not be spiritual that is their choice...period.

They can. A lot of people seem to think that by being non-religious, you denounce all spirituality, but I definitely don't agree this is the case at all.

I have never met a person who did not have at least a small aura of spirituality. The more religions studied the more spiritual you can become. Becoming entombed in a single religion stultifies spirituality.

I try to be compassionate and rational in every thought I have. It may not be possible, but I am improving at it. I do not know what your definition of spiritual is, or whether by religious you imply a belief in God, but I try and be kind in my every action. Does that count?

Who says that they aren't? Some people deny relation to a religious organization yet still practice selected rituals. Ex. Christians who just pray to Jesus and don't go to Church.
