Respected others for who they were...????
Turning over the tables
Saying he came to bring division, not peace
"You belong to your father, the devil" John 8:44
"For judgment I have came into the world" John 9:39
Also in Revelations Jesus is described as returning with the sword of condemnation.
In Matthew 23 he has a long speech against hypocrites
In Luke he commands his followers to buy a sword, and to sell their clothing if they cannot afford one.

He knew what was in the heart of a man. He knew their very deepest thoughts. He knew why he would have to die, because of the sin in our hearts. If there was one good person then God wouldn't have sent his son to die for sin. There are none. That's who man is. If you look at all of human history in the light of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us then all of the wars and hating and fighting have some, albeit horrible, meaning. They can be understood by the price that was paid for sin. But if you try to see a way out of the hating and fighting apart from his death and resurrection then you have rejected the only hope that the individual has and are left with a world in which wars and rumors of wars will always be.

If you are interested in the phenomena you might want to check a book on Gandhi out of a library. He was of a completely different religion, but he walked the same path as the Gentle Rebe. Including an occupying country and army.
Then he was killed, and, with his death the power wars began amongst his followers.

There is contradiction, because that Christianity is not true Christianity. Follow the teachings and allegories of Jesus' teachings, his teachings to his Apostles and not to the masses, to find the Kingdom of God within you and the true Christianity, which is the spiritual truth of the Bible.

I agree with you on this point. I think many people realize this as well. When you read only the part of the bible that came directly from Jesus, then the picture one gets is really a different on than what is taught by religious leaders.

I'm as peaceful and tolerant as someone living in a violent, hateful world can be. I turn the other cheek whenever I can, but people just LOVE to push for some reason. :S

You are correct concerning the average man. I do find it interesting though that Jesus had very little tolerance for the Pharisees who had perverted religion to meet their own selfish needs.

I think people get tripped up in the symbolism.
" I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? .... Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. (Luke 12:49-53) KJV
He predicted this himself

Well of course he was a humanitarian! but jesus was also God and as God set down his laws and we are to obey his laws. When
something or someone contradicts his law, that person breaks the law.

Well...maybe you should look at the bible? Jesus said that people needed to repent of their sins, or they would be condemned forever. Yes, He was loving and healed people. But the gospel message was very clear.....sin separates us from God. Only through faith in the son can we be reconciled to the Father.
