I think everyone has given good answers to the area. The problem is you will react in the way your training has programmed you. If you do not practice striking these areas and you constantly grapple, you are going to try to grapple. Practice cenerline strikes, sternum, throat, groin, nose etc.. hundreds / thousands of time so your body will throw the correct blow when you need it.

It depends. Are you trying to hurt him or just get away? Blows to the joints are always effective. A quick kick to the side of the knee will cause it to break, bringing him down. A frontal kick to the knee will dislocate it, also bringing him down. A blow to the throat will interrupt his breathing, but you need to be VERY CAREFUL. Too hard of a blow will cause his throat to swell and kill him. If all else fails, try to place a swift, hard kick to the area just to the inner part of his thigh. If you can kick him in the right spot, it will interrupt his blood flow in his artery and he will lose consciousness. This is a trickey hit, but it is possible. If you miss, you still stand a decent chance of dislocating his hip. If you do any of these moves, good luck. You'll probably be brough up on assault charges, but hey, you asked.

Without using wrestling or jui-jitsu, focuses on strikes like kung-fu. I would suggest strikes to the center line (minus the mouth) so eyes, nose, solar-plexis, groin, this is the most senstive part of the body and it doesn't take many strikes to the center line to nutralize your opponent.

Try the Omelette kick. When that connects you can push him down to the ground with no problem. Don't know what an omelette kick is? Well how do you make an omelette? By breaking a few eggs that's how.

look if your into grappling, ( it's not wrestling) take him by the point where it meets the shoulder and collar bone, then take his arm, put it behind him, kick hisd hamstring ( back of leg) then kick his calf muscle, after he goes limp from it, swing him around and mkae sure he lands on his knees or flat on the ground, spiin his arms around his back and place your knee on his lower part of his back, keep his arms knotted ( hold them both by the wrist)

it's a basic grappling move that is stemmed around kung-fu, but i don't do that style.

see if it works, if not well sorry and try something else
