I think it would be totally inappropriate to serve alcohol at a baby shower. That is totally disrespectful. This is the "Star of the party's day" and whatever she can not have should hold the same for all the other guests. I've never seen alcohol served at a baby shower before. You are having a party for someone who is expecting a baby not hosting it at a bar or brewery.

Well, I personally have never been to a shower that served alcohol, but I know of some. I would feel badly for the Mom, she can't drink, and serving alcohol would exclude her immediately, and she is supposed to be the star of the party.I personally would not serve it. It is all about bringing a healthy new life into the world, with love, rubbing the fact that the Mom can't drink in her face is not all that loving.
As an alternative, have something with caffeine in it, and have something without it for the Mom. The drinkers will not miss their booze as much with some caffeine on board.

It depends on the dynamic of the guests. For a normal baby shower, I'd say skip the alcohol. However, last year I helped with one that was a big party, with couples and families invited. We had two kinds of punch, spiked and not, and some people brought beer. It was a great time, and the mom to be had no problem with it. Unless it's a surprise, ask her.

I haven't been to a baby shower that has had alcohol. Especially if it is women only. I guess it would be ok. Of course the 'mommy to be' can't drink.
I guess some nice fruity cocktails would be nice. Nothing to hard or with too much alcohol.

I would leave that decision up to the mom-to-be. Having had three children of my own, I would have to say, that for me alcohol wouldn't be an issue. Mom obviously won't be drinking, and I'm sure she wants her guests to enjoy themselves. Why not have a margrita or cocktail? That way you could make a batch of virgin drinks for mommy and her non-drinking guests.

In lieu of champagne, the usual celebration drink, find a bottle of sparkling grape juice. There's a great one by Manichevitz (sp?) or go to your local IKEA furniture store. In their little food area after the checkout, they have some sparkling juices in wine bottles - grape, pear, apple, et cetera. It's a great alternative, especially for non-alcoholic parties.

NO! That's just tacky and wrong. If you want to drink, go to a bar after the shower. Baby showers are about celebrating the woman and her upcoming birth--not getting drunk.

I would pass on the alcohol. Serve some kind of festive punch.
