He is 9 years old and one of his conditions could ultimately lead to death. How do you explain to a child that what his doctors are doing to him may seem to him to be painful and cruel are saving his life. And how do I talk to him about death?

I am very sorry for what you are going through. I have a 9 yr old my self (healthy) But it must be painful to you as well. Having to watch him go through all of it. Im not really sure what to say to you since I have not been in that situation. Im sure him dying is on his mind also, so however you can talk to him you should. As stressful as it may seem at times remember to hug him everyday.(as Im sure you do) Good luck!!

There's no easy answer to that. If you're a religious person you could call upon clergy to help. All hospitals of chaplins (which are not there to preach to you, but to be a support for patients and their family). I'd be honest with him, not brutally. he may not need to know all of the little details, but he deserves to know what's going on.

I wish I knew what to tell you. I just want to say how sorry I am about your son.
Talk to the Dr. and see what he has to say. My heart goes out to you. We lost our
son and my heart aches for you because I know how hard this is for all of you.

wow, that's hard... i would start by explaining that death is an natural as being born, it happens to everyone. the dr. visits are helping him to stay healthy longer. hope that helps, good luck and God Bless!
