Almost all store cards offer great benefits by offering discounts on their items, reward points, 0% promos, etc.
The only bad thing about store cards is they generally have a higher interest rate than major credit cards.
So, store cards should be a "get the discount with your purchase then pay in full when you get the statement" type of card.
Really - all cards should be that way unless you have a 0% promo on either the store card or major credit card.
The best thing to do if you want a store card is to get one where you shop.
If you shop at Walmart (or Home Depot) but not Target (or Lowes), there would be no sense trying to get a Target (or Lowes) card.

Avoid getting a shopping or store credit card. Nearly everyone accepts Visa, Master Card and American Express.

What do you mean by a shopping card?
If you just mean a card to shop with, shop (sorry!) around...there are a lot of good options. You want to get one with no annual fee. If you pay off your card in full every month, look for one that gives cash back, otherwise look for one with a low interest rate. Personally I use the Amazon.com visa, but that's just 'cause I spend a lot of money there anyway so the GCs are a big help :-)

dont get a shopping credit card from a retailer. Check out creditcards.com for a standard credit card that offers reward points. Rates are usually less than retailers.
