While playing with a tennis ball my dog, an eight year old boxer, was hit in the eye. At first I did not realize that anything was extremely wong. after about 2 hours her eye has partially rolled in the back of her head(not completely) and is red. The area surrounding it is swollen. We have put a cold compress on it and have given her ibuprofen(this has been aprooved with our vet previously). None of the vets are open in town at the moment. any advice would be apreciated, the quicker the better.

Update: at first it was just her left eye. Her other eye apears now to be bloodshot as well. I do not think the tennis ball hit them both.

our vet is not in fact avadible after hours

Update: we are going to wait until morning before making the decision to take her to the vet, otherwise we would have to drive 2 or more hours to a pet hospital. she is now resting and is too sensitive to the cold compress. any other ideas?

If your vet isn't available, find one who is. Call your vets number, the answering machine generally gives a number to contact after hours.

I doubt any vet would tell you to give your dog ibuprofen as its TOXIC to dogs.

Your dog needs a vet plain and simple.

There are several methods to improve quickly and naturally eye sight.
To know how to do that you can find here a complete method based on researches done by some scientist, for a cheap price ( http://improve-vision.kyma.info )

I can give you just some tips but I suggest to give a look to the method that i posted above, for example you can take more food that contains vitamin A such as carrots may help to naturally improve your eye sight.
We can also always do exercises. There are exercises such as rolling your eyeball to form an invisible square that are always recommended by the doctors to improve one's eyesight.
I don't know about quickly as there is no fast way to reach one's goal.

Vegetarians can help to improve one's eye sight. I believe it because I am a vegetarian and my eye short-sightedness power remains the same without any increase after about 2 years.
The doctor was shocked because teenagers at my years will usually have a most increase since we are always watching TV, playing computers and also reading.
I do not know whether it is totally true or not but it does affect a bit on the result.

I wouldn't necessarily consider this an "emergency" but would most definitely have her to the doctor first thing in the morning. Ibuprofen is not good at all for dogs and deadly for cats. As mentioned earlier, buffered aspirin at low doses is OK (one 81mg tablet), but may cause her an upset tummy. If she doesn't seem to be in pain (acting normally) then don't give it at all...the upset tummy may not be worth it. The fact that it is affecting both eyes is concerning.

Why would you give her Ibuprofen that was approved previously for something else.. Ibuprophen is more for pain after surgery, dental procedures, Inflamation for arthritis or hip problems, things like that... NSAIDS are very very hard on the liver.. It's not something to just be given lightly. You shouldn't have given the dog anything..

Cold ice compress, and you have to see the vet.

you might have a serious problem. Eye muscles or the retina may be detached. NEVER give ibuprophen, it not good for animals, ASPIRIN is safe at low doses, but may cause thinner blood. Call a 24 hour vet asap. What may be wrong is fixable untill you wait too long. if cant get hold of vet, e mail me and get my number

Be carefull with the eye and the vet! This happened to my cocker and we took her to an afterhoures vet service and it was expensive, they said she had cherry eye and it would cost $1200.00 to fix . . And it went away the next day . . She has been finne even since and its 4 years later.... So I would say if dosent get better in a day then I would take your pup in. but I would let it go for a bit and just keep an eye on it.

is there an emergency vet anywhere in your area? unless you live out in the sticks, most places have one. i tend to be overly cautious, but i'd try to find out how close one is. (plan on it being expensive).
