yea, thats kinda what happend. it started happening when i moved in my own place. and the main languages i use at home, at my tmple, and with some of my friends isnt english. i only would use english at a job, class, or appointment. days i speak more english, the accents not really there. but days i speak Hndi or Gujrati, and not much english...them the days my accent gets kinda thick. also, one day in October, my one friend told me to go a whole day with an Indian accent, and i talked so much that day, i guess my mind clicked in that accent and now it wont go away. if i spoke all english, and wasnt around all the Indian people that im always around, and lived like an American, the accent would prolly be gone. can i help my accent though, and is it ok for me to have it, or should i work on getting rid of it completely?

You are very susceptible to picking up accents from people around you. When you get a little older, and it begins to matter, you will find you are able to drop the accent just by imitating co-workers or fellow students. In the meantime, you keep it because you like it, it makes you sound distinctive, and it is attractive to the opposite sex. Eventually you will be able to turn it on and off like a faucet. If not, maybe you will have a career in voiceovers. By the way, some of the best people I know are Gujarati, and it's a very agreeable accent.

Hello dood, one can have an accent even if one is born in the US. One reason may be that the speaker learned their parent's native language first before English. As a little kid the muscles in your mouth start to form to that first language, causing you to have an accent in another language you may try to pick up later on in life. However, if you learn English (or anyother lang. for that matter) at an early age, there should be no accent. Perhaps only while learning the language, but not after a significant amount of time. Also, if one's native tongue is chinese, italian, spanish or any other language where there are significant communities in the US, this will affect the speaker. These communities are of low resources, they don't really speak English amongst themselves and if so they code switch between English and the other language. This makes it more difficult to get rid of the accent when you're surrounded by a community where the predominant language is not English. THis should somewhat answer your first question of whether one may be born in "america" (the US dooder; America includes Canada, Mex, Central, South Am, etc.) and still have an accent.

As far as your second inquiry, I'm not too certain to be quite honest. You just picked up an accent 6 months ago, this is quite interesting. Some factors may be that perhaps you spent those 6 months in India an/or didn't speak English as much during that time. There had to have been something, it's quite odd that one day you woke up and just started speaking with an accent. Perhaps you just got selfpwn3d.... one day you were just phucking around with the accent and then you just kept on doing it.

Maybe you are purposely trying to have the accent so you will stand out.
