Gene Tunney was a very clever boxer with great footwork. His power is also underrated (check the boxing records) and he floored Dempsey too. Foster would not be easy for him but we aren't talking about Chris Finnegan or Mike Quarry but the great Gene Tunney here even at 175 lbs. I believe that Tunney would have frustrated Bob all night and won the unanimous decision.

The Blogbaba gotta give bluedevil a thumbs up, Foster was a very good champion, but Tunney was one of the greats. Foster was not in Dempsy's league, and if Tunney could beat Jack Dempsy, then odds are pretty good he would have got to Foster as well.

Foster by KO. Tunney was a sharp, but not huge, puncher. Foster (along with Bob Fitzsimmons)was probably the hardest puncher in the history of the division. Could Gene take one of his bombs detonating off his chin? Very debatable.

TO BLOGABOO OR WHATEVER HIS NAME IS. STYLES MAKE A FIGHT NOT WHO BEAT WHO. TUNNEY WOULD NOT EVEN MAKE THE TOP TEN IN ALL-TIME HEAVY TS. BOB FOSTER IS THE #2 RANKED LIGHT HEAVY WT OF ALL TIME.

TUNNEY WAS A GOOD DEFENSIVE FIGHTER AND A CLASSIC BOXER. IN THIS BOUT FOSTER JO'S TUNNEY SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 10 AND 14 RD'S.

Great matchup. Does Foster hit harder than Dempsey? I would go with Tunney in a fifteen round decision.
