As a Christian, I don't really feel like I need a gun to protect myself. Ultimately, I only feel like I would use it to protect myself from the government, but they have no good reason to come after me and I have no problem suffering for God.
However, this is a slightly illogical question. It reminds me of the person who wore the t-shirt that said "Proudly unarmed" on the city streets. Do you see the lack of intelligence on this person's part?

Those college kids lived happly and peacefully too, right up to the moment they died, and right up to the point where college security, and the police department, FAILED to protect their lives.
If all, or even some of those college kids had been carrying guns, and knew how to use them, the killer would have maybe gotten a few of them, but not over 30 of them.
And if a killer or terrorist ever comes after your neighbor, a gun in your home might be the only thing that keeps YOU from being next!
Anyone who expects the government to protect them in an emergency should review police actions during the Rodney King riots in California, where the police backed off and simply let everything take it's course.
Only those who had weapons of their own were able to save their lives and property.
The rest got robbed, beaten, raped, or worse, and nobody in authority was concerned or dedicated enough to try and stop it.
Don't be so sure about your happiness and peace. It could evaporate in a New York minute.
And then, you're on your own!

then why is it that it takes a person with a gun to stop a criminal who has a gun.
Ex: An asst principle in Alabama in 1995 stopped a killer who had already killed 2 people in a high school and was on his way to a Jr high school next door to kill more. In keeping with the law, the asst principle kept his gun in his car which was parked 1000 ft from the school. He ran to his car and got his gun and ran back as the killer was on his way to the Jr high school. He did not kill the killer, but held him at gun point for 5.5 minutes until the police (who carry guns) arrived.
How many people would have died if the wise man did not understand the evil of the world. Evil people who would even go into a high school and kill???????????? Thanks to this wise man we will never know how many lives he actually saved.
Guns protect us from the evil who use guns. A cop without a gun cannot stop a killer with a gun. Do cops live in fear or are they just wise enough to understand the evil of the world we live in?????

I own several weapons, and I do not live in any kind of fear. I am also a soldier trained to use them if i need to. I keep my personal weapons not only for personal defense, but also for recreational use. Shooting targets is very kathartic for me. Your statement is flawed. In your mind apparently all gun fights are two guys standing in the street. 99% of the time this is not the case and you either have advanced warning or do have time to go for your weapon. Soldiers in the mideast dont even carry loaded weapons unless they are specifically going into hostile action. And they still have time to react.
Also, if someone is going to shoot you and your family, wouldn't you at least like the ability to defend yourself or the ones you love? Or would you rather just sit there and watch everyone you love perish? If you have a weapon and know how to use it, it can become an equalizer, as most criminals are cowards at heart and will run at the sight of a weapon coming at them.

How do you plan to protect yourself against the psychotic rapist/murderer who breaks into your house in the middle of the night? There are people who have to deal with that, and other threats, because of where they life. Even though they may THEMSELVES be happy and peaceful people, it doesn't mean their neighbors are the same!
I had a drug dealer living across the street from me for many years. We couldn't let our kids walk across that side of the street for a long time, and had to keep constant watch out for her guard dogs (they had the tendency to escape their cage and attack people). She threatened her next-door neighbor with arson if she was ever reported for her drug activities.
What do you suggest as protection against such evil people? The police cannot be everywhere at once. We have the right to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our property from nutcases like this!
Fear is only unhealthy, where there is no danger or threat. Lack of fear-sense in the face of danger is either incredible bravery, or incredible foolishness.

Nope, as long as faith persists fundamentalism will as nicely, in Christianity as nicely as Islam. Jihad isn't terrorism... the term Jihad skill "conflict." purely some Muslims practice this be conscious to what we view as terrorism (the conflict against infidels). besides the incontrovertible fact that for Muslims on the full Jihad has a much greater benign nature. Jihad, for example, might desire to be the conflict against a sinful nature... an inner conflict, a conflict for peace even. leave it to the lack of expertise of yank media to vilify a be conscious they don't understand. the basis of the priority is faith. as quickly as this is dealt with we could have some distance fewer problems in society.

I live happily and peacefully. I also own a gun.
Tell me, do you wear a jacket on cold days? If so, why?
Oh, to ~protect~ yourself from the cold. I see.
Why do some wear a gun? To ~protect~ themselves, and others, from those who would cause harm.
Just because you accept that anyone who wants to kill you, rape you, or harm you, is allowed to do so, that does not mean everyone should.

Not at all, I own guns, and I do not live in fear at all, but I DO pity dumbasses like yourself that are completely brain dead and delusional.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people
FYI, I have my Concealed Handgun License, and have received training, and practice target shooting on a regular basis. And keep my guns CLEAN, so they will fire when I need them to.

You must live in some fantasy world. There was a home invasion in my neighborhood last year. Luckily, the lady of the house, who was home alone, was able to protect herself against the invader by using her gun.

I live happily and peacefully knowing that if ever I woke up and heard somebody breaking into my house that I would be 30 seconds away from grabbing my weapon and would shoot him on sight.
